Principal Ann Achtziger said students picked the mascot well before the 1980s.

Near the beginning of each school year, the incoming senior class repaints the sabercat’s face that you see painted on the rows of the west-looking stands of the football stadium.

Ironically, her bachelor’s degree is in hotel/restaurant management and then went into sales.

“I soon admitted that teaching was in my blood,” she said, noting her parents are lifelong educators. “I love teaching – especially 1st grade.
