In an effort to fulfill its goal of providing Peoria residents with easy access to nonprofit services that cover a wide array of needs, construction is underway on a new health services resource center at the Peoria Community Center. City officials expect to complete the resource center by Friday, June 14. A grand opening is set for Thursday, June 27. At a recent city council meeting during which staff presented councilmembers with an update, City Manager Jeff Tyne called the community center “an important
hub for the city.” “I am excited for everyone to use the center, and already there have been people announcing they are eager to volunteer and help,” responded Councilman Bill Patena, who Tyne cited as having requested the project update. “I am very excited to see this open and hit the ground running.” The project is in part funded by the fiscal year 2019 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The CDBG program, which will cover $450,000, provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs.
