Council receives update on anticipated annexation of State Land parcels At its regular study session Nov. 13, Peoria City Council came to a consensus in a move to annex several parcels of ASLD land — approximately 1,206 acres — situated within the borders of the city. The land under consideration for annexation lies either near or directly straddles the Loop 303 in North Peoria.
Peoria Unified halts superintendent search
City officials made it clear during the past few years it wants to annex the property to assure future development occurs in a manner “commensurate with the city’s economic development objectives and design interests.� The Arizona State Land Department (ASLD) manages 9.2 million acres of land in the state. For now, the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board is putting a halt to its search for a new superintendent. At its Nov. 8 regular meeting, the vote was unanimous to retain Linda Palles-Thompson as the interim superintendent, citing a need to maintain the stability she has brought since the ouster of the former superintendent last year. The decision by the Governing Board came after Chief Personnel Officer Carter Davidson gave a history of the search process, beginning in February when McPherson & Jacobson was selected as the consultant group to lead the district’s superintendent search. McPherson & Jacobson collaborated with the district administration to outline a search process and define a search timeline to begin in November.
