China Mist Tea has introduced its new RealCup single-serve iced tea capsules for K-Cup-style brewers. It is available in three flavors—watermelon marula and passion fruit black teas, and blackberry jasmine green tea—and a new offering triberry delight herbal tea.

In addition, the family-owned grocer is testing new technology in 40 of its Bashas’ and Food City stores that helps customers make decisions about what products to purchase.

“Like Machines” are placed near specific products so shoppers can share their opinions with other shoppers by pushing the “Like” button when they see a product they enjoy. In turn, shoppers can see the number of endorsements a product has received, which can help to influence their

decision to purchase the product. It also helps the grocer to determine product preferences in different neighborhoods throughout the state. So far, more than 500,000 endorsements have been made in the pilot stores.

“The decision to test the ‘Like Machines’ in our Bashas’ and Food City stores was an easy one,” said Basha.

“We continually strive to improve our customers’ shopping experience, and this technology is another way to do that.”

Hines sells Chandler Viridian hotel pad; Alliance breaks ground Hines, the international real estate firm, has sold Chandler Viridian’s hotel pad to Concord Hospitality Enterprises Co. to develop a Cambria Hotels & Suites.

The price was not disclosed.

In addition to the modern brand hotel, Chandler Viridian will include a central plaza with 240,000 square feet of office space, a luxury multifamily complex, retail options and a pedestrian promenade to the Chandler Fashion Center.

Chandler Viridian is located at the northwest corner of the Loop 101/Loop 202 interchange in the heart of the Price Corridor in Chandler.

“After a lengthy process to turn the former Elevation Chandler site into our premier mixed-use project, we are invigorated by the progress of the development and also the quality of Chandler Viridian’s hotel brand and

upscale apartments,” said Chris Anderson, managing director and city leader for Hines.

Arizona earns a B- for small business friendliness in survey

Valley dentist uses Cancer Awareness Month to help kids

Small business owners gave Arizona a B- for its business friendliness, with relatively positive perceptions of its regulatory environment, according to Thumbtack’s annual Small Business Friendliness Survey.

Nearly 18,000 U.S. small business owners responded to the survey, including 597 in Arizona. The study asked respondents to rate their state and city governments across a broad range of policy factors. Thumbtack.com then evaluated states and cities against one another along more than a dozen metrics.

“Small business owners on Thumbtack have consistently told us that they welcome support from their governments, but are frequently frustrated by unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles,” said Jon Lieber, chief Thumbtack economist. “Arizona’s regulatory climate is better than in its

Pedestrian-friendly retail center coming to Gilbert and Ocotillo

Construction has begun on a pedestrian-friendly retail center dubbed The Plant that will be anchored by Sprouts Farmers Market. Spanning roughly 8 acres on the southeast corner of Gilbert and Ocotillo roads, The Plant will also feature a mixture of retail and restaurant tenants.

“With Sprouts as our anchor tenant, it helps set the tone for the center as a neighborhood marketplace where you can pick up groceries, grab a coffee, have lunch, shop” said developer Brian Frakes, principal, of Common Bond.

“We’re currently in the process of finalizing leases with several notable tenants that will add great value to the center. Once the buildings begin to go vertical we’ll fill our remaining spaces with additional popular tenants that benefit the community.”

Common Bond along with local architects SUITE 6 Architecture + Planning and Cawley Architects, landscape architect GK Flanagan Associates and contractor GCON are working together to open The Plant by late summer 2016.

The Plant will have attractive pathways highlighted by seat walls, unique planting and shade trees, according to Frakes.

Surrounding shops will have farmhouseinspired chevron roofs and open-air arcades along the fronts with wood, brick and metal accents.

Frakes said Chandler was chosen

because it is a “special” location.

“First, the Chandler community is a special place to do business,” Frakes said.

“It is a pleasure to partner with people that hold so much pride in their community. Additionally, there are only a few developments happening in Chandler right now and, when we had the opportunity to build The Plant, we knew it was a chance to deliver a center with one-of-a-kind character to the city. We have no interest in delivering a development that looks like everything else.”

Frakes notes that while bringing an identity to a retail center isn’t fast or cheap, creating this unique destination for surrounding communities is the incentive behind The Plant.

The Plant team also plans on working with the City of Chandler to incorporate public art that celebrates the area’s agricultural heritage—an underlying theme of the overall look and feel of the development.

Including land acquisition, the cost of the land is approximately $15 million.

“We’re going above and beyond with the design and architecture of the space,” Frakes said.
