Glendale Star Executive Editor

The Arizona Coyotes are paving the way for a move to the East Valley after the team showed interest in a Tempe project. The city of Tempe posted a request for proposals, or RFP, for a project incorporating a professional sports franchise and entertainment district for two parcels of city-owned land totaling 46 acres at the northeast corner of Priest Drive and Rio Salado Parkway. The deadline is Aug. 19. The Coyotes and the cities of Tempe and Glendale emailed generic statements,

Glendale teenager Malia Bradford ran away from home in March 2020 after she was dropped off at school on a Friday morning. She was frustrated with growing up, confused about her family, and just wanted to be normal like the other kids at school. Police found her eight hours later hiding at a friend’s house, where she told them that, at home, she wasn’t allowed to have social media and faced being grounded if she didn’t do her chores. Police returned her to her Glendale home and her stepmother later that night. Not even a month later, Malia told her stepmom she was going to run outside quickly to take out the trash. She never came back.

Malia has been missing since April 24, 2020. In a statement, investigators said they believe she may be with an adult woman and is most likely still in the Glendale area or in the Valley. “She’s only 14, so she’s looking for guidance, she’s looking for love, and it’s just not where she thinks she’s going to find it right now,” said Kimberly Slocum, Malia’s stepmother. “My heart hurts 24/7.” Slocum said the day Malia disappeared, they were doing chores and hanging around their apartment. Malia was just released from school for summer vacation and the impending COVID-19 pandemic. Because they couldn’t go on vacation anywhere, Slocum and Malia decided they would dye their hair fun colors instead. It SEE RUNAWAY PAGE 3
