Peoria City Councilwoman Bridget Binsbacher has been named the Cactus League’s first executive director. Binsbacher has been involved with the Cactus League for more than a decade and became its first female executive board member in 2012. Last season, she was the Cactus League’s director of operations. “I am honored to serve as Cactus League executive director,” Binsbacher said. “Spring Training is a key driver in Arizona’s economy and a source of pride for all Arizonans. I look forward to working with our stakeholders to ensure the long-term vitality of the Spring Training industry.” In 2018, the Cactus League generated
$644.2 million in economic impact, according to an ASU study. Six out of 10 attendees come from out of state. Founded in 1947, the nonprofit Cactus League has been run by volunteers for most of its history. “We are excited to name Bridget to the newly created role of executive director,” Cactus League President Jeff Meyer said. “As director of operations, she did a great job overcoming many challenges facing the organization. With her long experience in Spring Training and strong relationships statewide, Bridget is the ideal choice to lead the Cactus League.” A former banker, Binsbacher will be responsible for executing Cactus League

strategic initiatives and maintaining business relationships with the 15 MLB franchises. She comes from a long line of baseball players. In the early 1930s, her grandfather played for a Mexican league farm team. He passed on his love to baseball to her uncle, who played in farm leagues and Spring Training for the Padres, before they were an official franchise. Binsbacher’s brothers played college ball, as did her sons. Her two older sons were on the Liberty High School baseball team when it won its first state championship. A New Mexico man disappeared while traveling to Peoria for a job, and authorities are now searching for two men who used the missing man’s credit cards. Craig Cavanaugh, 44, was last seen in Payson on July 4, according to Farmington, New Mexico, police. Department spokeswoman Georgette Allen told Peoria Times the 2012 Toyota Tacoma Cavanaugh had been driving, however, was found on July 14, a little over a week after his disappearance.
