Kidsgrove Sports Centre Community Group was recently successfully chosen by Persimmon Homes as part of its Community Champions scheme.

The group, which was formed in 2017 by residents, has listed the building as of community interest, obtaining charitable status.

David Rigby, a trustee for the community group, said: “We are extremely grateful for the donation from Persimmon Homes, and we will use the funding to purchase new equipment for a range of sporting activities. “We want the centre to be a community-led venture which provides affordable sport and leisure facilities to our local communities. “We hope that by providing new equipment we can promote health and fitness, reducing obesity in the area and improving people’s lifestyle choices.”

Dave Hodgson, sales director of Persimmon Homes North West, said: “In an area where the life expectancy is below national average and child obesity is in the top five, this group is so important and will make a huge difference to the lives of those in the community. “We are pleased to be able to support Kidsgrove Sport Centre in their venture. Groups like these are why we run our Community Champions scheme.”

Community Champions sees each of the company’s regional offices make two donations of up to £1,000 each month. Details and an online application form can be found at: www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
