From mouth-watering flavors and aromas to the roar of festival rides and live music — all amid a kaleidoscope of colors, people and activity — a day at the Strawberry Festival will FLOOD your senses.

The event began back in 1930 when members of the newly organized Plant City Lions Club conceived the idea of an event to celebrate the area’s bountiful harvest of strawberries. In 1948, American Legion Post #26 helped get the Florida Strawberry Festival reactivated following a six-year hiatus during and immediately following World War II. The Lions Club and other civic organizations have participated in the Festival ever since.

Here’s the thing about the Strawberry Festival: it’s about so much more than strawberries.

Today, the annual event now ranks among the Top 40 Fairs in North America. It is a great time to discover the charm of Plant City, and it’s the perfect time to feast on luscious strawberries alongside the local farmers who have worked so hard to bring them to market. More than 10,000 acres of strawberries are planted annually in the area. In fact, there are some 2,800 farms in Hillsborough County that produce fruit and vegetable crops with an annual value of over $360

Of course, if strawberries are all that you seek, you will not be disappointed. You’ll find them at the peak of freshness, and slathered with whipped cream, dipped in chocolate, pressed into jam, whipped into shakes and decorating pizza. Their delicious juices will soak into cupcakes, donuts and shortcake, stunning your senses with their rich red beauty and mouth-watering sweetness. Even burgers aren’t safe from their influence; but it’s nothing like the usual burger. Imagine a juicy hamburger patty fried on a griddle, topped with strawberry mayonnaise, strawberry relish and other fixins, and sandwiched between two strawberry donuts.

How decadent. If you gained a pound reading that, don’t fret. Wash it down with a tall dewy cup of chilled strawberry lemonade, and if you’re still feeling peckish, nosh on some strawberry fudge or strawberry kettle corn. In the mood to make history? Save some room for one of the numerous eating contests or the deep-fried strawberry-pie-on-a-stick relay. The festival is a prime opportunity to overwhelm your tastebuds with the unmatched deliciousness of strawberries.

At some point you’ll want to give your stomach a rest.

That’s when you can explore all the other activities at the family-friendly event, and discover why it takes 11 days to contain it all. Guests come from near and far to check out live music acts by stars including Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, Michael Ray, Patti Labelle, The Oak Ridge Boys and many others; and explore exhibits of agriculture, commerce, industry, livestock, fine arts, crafts and horticulture. The fabric of American life is woven into the Festival through social events, contests, youth developmental programs, and parades with eye-popping floats and high-octane marching bands.

How much is gate admission?

How much is parking? Parking is available on Florida Strawberry Festival property in the Blue, Gray and Red Parking Lots located on Ritter Street, off Highway 92 or Highway 574.

Cars, pickup trucks and vans under 20 ft: $5 Vehicles over 20 ft. to 39 ft.: $10 Vehicles or buses over 40 ft.: $15 The T-Mobile tram runs daily from the Blue, Red and Gray parking lots to the Festival’s entry Gates 10 and 14. Parking is also available in independent lots around the Festival grounds (Bryan Elementary School track, Tomlin Middle School, etc).

How do I buy concert tickets? Reserved seating tickets can be purchased starting in early December online, over the phone at 813-754-1996 or in person at the Amscot Main Ticket Office located at 2209 West Oak Ave. in Plant City. Didn’t buy tickets before you came? You can get them on site! Stop by the Ticket Office located east of the Wish Farms Soundstage and get your tickets right before the show.

Am I required to purchase a gate admission ticket with my concert ticket? Yes.

Admission to all concerts requires a gate admission ticket as well. Admission tickets can be purchased ahead of time online or at participating Publix Super Market stores.

They can also be purchased at the gate upon your arrival.

How do I get a meet-and-greet pass to meet an entertainer? All meet-and-greet events with headline entertainers are coordinated through each artist’s fan club. For information regarding meet-and-greet opportunities, please contact that artist’s fan club.

Is the concert arena enclosed or open-air? The Wish Farms Soundstage and GT Grandstands seating area is an open-air, uncovered facility.

How do I get a free seat for headline entertainment concerts? We no longer offer free seating for headline entertainment shows.

Does my young child need a concert ticket? Children 2 years old and under do not need a concert ticket as long as they will sit on your lap. Children 3 years old and above require a ticket.

Which days do you offer wristbands on the Midway? Wristbands are available for purchase every day of the Festival; but on Friday, March 6, they are only available for purchase during Moonlight Magic, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

What is included with my admission ticket? For the price of a movie ticket, you can have fun all day! Plant City’s Royal Family

Every year, the Strawberry Festival selects five exceptional young women for the Royal Court. It’s an honor to be chosen and they embrace their role as ambassadors for their Festival and their city.

For some families, it is a point of pride that there have been multiple wearers of the crown from generation to generation. Grandma, great aunt, mom, daughter, niece .... To a person, they wear it with a rare yet winning combination of grace, humility, and Miss America-style glamour. With dazzling smiles, these ambassadors of the Strawberry Festival and everything it represents go forth — immaculately decked out, perfectly poised and ready to do whatever is needed. If their feet hurt from walking and standing all day in high heels, you’ll never know it.

Career plans range from anesthesiology to politics to wildlife ecology, with goals of working for such iconic brands as Microsoft and National Geographic.

For Meghan White, Queen, being an ambassador for the Festival and for Plant City is a privilege. “I love the connectedness that Plant City holds,” she explains. “Life So many of the people who live in the Plant City area is meant to be lived and this community does that. special-needs teens. In her estimation, the people of Plant City are the “kindest, most loving people who will treat you like family. It warms my heart to know this town always has my back.” Court Member Emma Miller, who as a girl looked up to the Queen and Court, is especially excited about seeing the Festival behind the scenes, and feels “blessed to be given this opportunity.” Michael Ray fan Emma can’t wait to see him perform. Court Member Denim Hughes, a Rascal Flatts fan, feels the Festival “makes Plant City unique.” She particularly loves the “diversity in games, rides, food and music,” and acknowledges it’s a phenomenon — as it annually attracts some half a million people to the city of 40,000. Says Denim, “Walking by the Queen and her Court as a little girl made you feel like you were surrounded by royalty. I have absolutely dreamed of this.”

These exceptional yet down-to-earth young women will be at various locations and events of the Festival throughout its 11-day run. When you see them, be sure to say “hi.”

They’re Movin’ On...

After 20 years together, country music trio Rascal Flatts announces their farewell tour.

In the past 10 years, uber-talented musical trio Rascal Flatts has been the most awarded country group with over 40 wins, including at the American Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards and American Country Awards.

“When we started out 20 years ago, we could not imagine all of the people, places and gifts we would encounter,” lead vocalist Gary LeVox said. “The greatest feeling ever, is being told that our music has been the soundtrack to their lives. What greater gift can an artist receive than to be told, ‘I got married to Bless The Broken Road’, or ‘We played My Wish at my graduation’?

That ‘What Hurts The Most is the song that made me love country music for the first time,’ or ‘I’m Movin’ On helped me get sober’ or even that ‘Changed made me call my family again after not talking to them for years’? While this is their final appearance at the Florida Strawberry Festival, all is not lost for diehard fans. At the time of this writing, the official farewell tour — Rascal Flatts Farewell: Life Is A Highway — will span from June 11 to Oct. 30, 2020 (with their final performance in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena).

Can you offer any alternate routes to get to the Festival? From the west: Take Highway 60 through Brandon and head east to Highway 39. At the intersection of Highway 60 and Highway 39, turn left and take Highway 39 (James L. Redman Parkway) north to Alexander Street.

At Alexander Street and Highway 39 (James L. Redman Parkway), turn left. Take Alexander to Reynolds and turn left at the intersection of Alexander and Reynolds. Once you turn on Reynolds, look for parking to the north or south of the Festival grounds. The grounds are just up the road as you head east on Reynolds.

Visitors from westbound I-4: Exit Interstate 4 at Forbes Road (Exit 17), proceed south to Highway 574 (MLK Blvd.), then east to the Festival area.

From the east: Take Highway 60 through Mulberry and head west to Highway 39.

At the intersection of Highway 60 and Highway 39, turn right and take Highway 39 (James L. Redman Parkway) north to Alexander Street. Follow the same route as if you were coming from the west outlined above.

Visitors from eastbound I-4 Park Road: Exit Interstate 4 at Park Road (Exit 22) go south to Hwy. 92 (Baker St.), continue west, turn south on Alexander Street, then west on Reynolds Street, leading you to the Festival grounds.

Visitors from eastbound I-4 Buchman Hwy. /Alexander St.: Exit Interstate 4 at Buchman Hwy. /Alexander St. (Exit 21), take southbound Alexander Street, then westbound Reynolds Street, leading you to the Festival grounds.

From the south: Look for routes that will take you to Highway 60 located south of the Festival grounds. Once you are on Highway 60, proceed and follow the directions above that indicate if you are traveling east to west or west to east. The directions will be the same once you get on Highway 60 and make your way to the Festival.

If traveling from the Lakeland/Mulberry/Bartow area, take State Road 60 to northbound State Road 39 (James Redman Parkway), then turn west on Alexander Street; this will curve north, then take another westbound turn onto Reynolds Street, leading you to the Festival grounds.

From the north: Look for routes that take you to Highway 39 (Paul Buchman Highway) into Plant City. Paul Buchman Highway will turn into Wheeler Street.

Proceed south on Wheeler Street through town and then take a right on Dr. MLK Jr. Boulevard heading west.

Once you get to Alexander Street, take a right and proceed to Reynolds. Take a left on Reynolds and head west to the Festival grounds on your right.

Alternatively: Look for routes that take you to Alexander Street into Plant City. Alexander Street splits with Paul Buchman Highway north of the city; proceed south on Alexander and look for Reynolds Street as you enter town. Take a right on Reynolds, and there is parking throughout the area located just south of the Festival grounds.

Which days are Florida Blue Senior Citizen Days? Florida Blue Senior Citizen Days are both Thursdays, Feb. 27 and March 5.

Can I purchase fresh strawberries on the Festival grounds? Yes! Fresh strawberries are available for purchase at the Wish Farms booth (inside the northeast corner of the Parke Exhibit Building and also directly outside Gate 1) and at Parkesdale Farms (inside the south end of the Parke Exhibit Building and also by Gate 16).

Where can I buy strawberry shortcake? Our world-famous strawberry shortcake is available at THREE different locations on the Festival grounds: East Hillsborough Historical Society Strawberry Shortcake (directly south of the TECO Expo Hall), St. Clement Catholic Church Make-Your-Own Shortcake (inside the south end of the Parke Exhibit Building), and Transforming Life Church Shortcake (inside the Smithfield Strawberry Tent).

Do you sell alcohol? No alcohol is sold or permitted anywhere on the Festival grounds.

Do you ever close because of bad weather? A little rain doesn’t shut us down!

In the event of inclement weather, we watch the local forecast closely to ensure the safety of our patrons. Be sure to check our website, where we always keep you up to date on the latest information. Also, check the local weather forecast before you visit, and plan to bring a jacket, hat or sunscreen as appropriate.

Are credit cards accepted on grounds? MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express are accepted at each gate for admission, for tickets on the Midway and for many of our vendors and crafters. We recommend carrying a little cash just in case.

Do you have food vendors? In addition to our famous strawberry shortcake, throughout the Festival you will find dozens upon dozens of tantalizing treats to tempt your taste buds.

Can I rent a stroller, wheelchair or scooter? A limited number of strollers, wagons, wheelchairs and motorized scooters can be rented online via vistamobility.net or near Gates 1, 14, 16 & the Tour Bus Lot. A driver’s license will be held as a deposit.

All rentals are cash or credit only, and pricing is as follows: Stroller – $12 (cash or credit card only) Wagon – $17 (cash or credit card only) Wheelchair – $25 (cash or credit card only) Motorized Scooter – $60 all day, $40 after 5 p.m. (cash or credit card only) What do I do if I lose a person or an item while at the Festival? If you’ve lost track of someone or something during your visit, all lost persons and property will be safely cared for in the Lost & Found caboose sponsored by WonderPax. The bright red caboose is located near the east side of the Parke Exhibit Building.

Is smoking permitted on the Festival grounds? Smoking is not permitted inside buildings or the Wish Farms Soundstage arena. Smoking is permitted outdoors on the Festival grounds.

Can I bring drinks or food in the gate with me?

No bottles, cans, coolers or picnic baskets are permitted inside the gates.

What should I wear? For your comfort and safety, we recommend that you wear low, close-toed shoes. Check the weather forecast before your visit and bring jackets, hats or sunscreen as appropriate.

Can I bring my pet with me? Dogs and/or other animals are not allowed on the Festival grounds unless they are a service or guide dog, non-human primate or animals in a show or contest. Certified trainers (with ID stating same) of companion dogs/animals will be allowed.

Are there nursing facilities and diaper-changing facilities? Diaper changing facilities are located in all Potillo Restrooms on the Festival grounds. The Badcock Home Furniture & Mmore Mother & Baby Suite is located in the Milton E. Hull building.

What is the best way to plan for my visit? We have plenty of resources available to you to make the most of your Festival visit! Use our website where you can view and print a schedule and map ahead of time. Maps and schedules are also available on the grounds at the UNCOMMON USA information booths inside each entry gate.

Will pictures be available for my family to purchase? The friendly folks at Images Everywhere! will be on hand to take a special keepsake photo of you and your family when you enter the gate to commemorate your Festival visit. They will be located at Gate 1, Gate 5, Gate 13, Gate 14 and Gate 16.

Apple fries are a delicious treat that taste like crispy mini apple pies. Festivalgoers have the option of having them with caramel, whipped cream, ice cream and even bacon!
