Looking further ahead in July, check out the new Luxton outdoor Night Market, taking place every Wednesday night in July and August, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.You’ll find the market at the Luxton Fairground in Langford. By popular demand, Colwood’s Eats & Beats at the Beach is back. It’s all happening on July 20, from 1 to 8 p.m. on the scenic Esquimalt Lagoon. Take in five live bands, a street food festival, craft beverage garden hosted by the Victoria Beer Society, beach
street market, and free fun stuff happening on sand, sea and sky. Last, but certainly not least, if golf is your thing, then there are three tournaments coming up in July where you can enjoy golf, connect with friends or colleagues and support your community. etchosin International Summer School of the Arts (MISSA) has been providing high calibre, specialized workshops for artists, teachers and serious adult students for 35 years, hosting local, national and international instructors who engage with students in an intense multi-disciplinary environment. Students from around the world come to participate in this artistic immersion for two weeks. This year’s school runs from June 22 to July 5. MISSA is all about the magic that happens when like-spirited folks who love art and the creative process gather together.

‘Oceans’ exhibit celebrates Marine World arth’s surface is just over 70 per cent water and contains five oceans. The largest ocean nudges us here in B.C. — the Pacific. It covers more than 30 per cent of the planet. The exhibit at Coast Collective — Oceans — celebrates the marine world above, below and alongside. Paintings, mixed media and photography depict beaches, waves, sea creatures and marine life. Artists have made use of the ocean’s bounty by incorporating glass and seashells into vases and mixed media pieces. No depiction of the sea would be complete without mermaids. These are made from clay. There are also mermaid art dolls, including an anthropomorphic seagull art doll. See ‘Oceans’ at Coast Collective Gallery from June 26 to July 14. Tracy Leal — Imagination Emporium “So many books, so little time.”— Frank Zappa A member of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Arts Guild, Tracy Leal has been a bookbinder for 20 years, beginning with courses taken at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and Dawson Room Print Shop at Dalhousie University. Her studies included a variety of bookbinding styles, repairs and archival techniques. For her solo exhibit, from July 3 to 14, the Westridge Gallery will be set up like an

eclectic store, with paintings on the walls, shelves of books, toys, jewelry, wands, and more. On Sunday, July 7, you can meet Tracy at the Meet-the-artist reception, from 1 to 3. Tracy creates unique and beautiful books. Each book is a one-of-a-kind, from the mono-printed covers to the specially designed end pages. During her 17 years as an elementary school librarian, Tracy had opportunities to introduce bookbinding to students and teachers. Today, she continues to enjoy teaching adults and children basic bookbinding techniques to ‘spread the joy and fulfillment that comes from making books.’ The Coast Collective Art Centre is open from 11 to 5, Wednesday through Sunday.
