Though it seems the sun may have hidden itself away for now, that doesn’t mean the fun has ended. Make your way up to the Cowichan Valley this fall season and enjoy the generous offerings waiting to be experienced and enjoyed.

By Ian Locke, Executive Director Downtown Duncan BIA

A

s another eventful summer in the Warmland slides into a cool wet autumn, new and exciting things continue to appear on the horizon for our small town — in a big way. The Downtown Duncan Business Improvement Area (BIA) is in the process of helping a few businesses with façade improvement funding through one of its grant initiatives, while continuing to receive overwhelmingly positive responses to the eight television commercial campaigns it produced and aired on CTV Vancouver Island for local businesses this year. Stay tuned and keep an eye out, as there are four more amazing local shops still to be featured. This October, the Wild Wings Nature & Arts Festival will celebrate its 10th year of providing innovative opportunities to learn and appreciate the incredible natural beauty of the Cowichan and the world around us, in support of their conservation efforts of the Somenos Marsh area. Our connectedness to nature continues to be a rising

trend in thought processes — for people in the region, this can clearly be seen in the continued popularity of the Duncan Farmers Market, which takes over Duncan’s Downtown streets every Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. There, you will find a great and delicious variety of locally grown produce and tasty treats from vendors, all while checking out the incredible works of local craftmakers, including some of the best award-winning wineries and distilleries in the region. Nature, arts, culture, shopping and cuisine — we’ve got it all. What are you waiting for? downtownduncan.ca
