Although we may need to wait a little longer before most events can take place, Alert Level 3/Phase 2 does allow public facilities – such as libraries, museums and galleries – to open their doors, albeit with social distancing and masking measures in place. With everything from smaller, local venues to MOTAT, Auckland War Memorial Museum, Auckland Botanic Gardens, Auckland Art Gallery and more opening up, there are many sites to see and things to do.

Amazing Mr Mozart Online

Thanks to the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, this family-friendly concert (inspired by Donovan Bixley’s book Mozart: The Man Behind the Music) ensures the music of a master lives on. Wild Film Festival

Despite the pandemic, this year’s show will still go on... online. Featuring a eclectic variety of works, Sculpture OnShore’s website includes vivid photos and videos as well as detailed information about the pieces and their creators.

Mary Quant

December 10 – March 13, Auckland Art Gallery, Cnr Kitchener and Wellesley Sts, Auckland City Showcasing the work of fashion icon, Mary Quant, this exhibition features garments from the swinging sixties and those that set the tone for the decades following. Riverhaven Artland Summer Sculpture Festival & Clevedon Art Trail

January 29-31, 331 North Rd, Clevedon (Riverhaven), and other locations, Clevedon Art and gardens make for a most creative pairing, as Riverhaven Artland shows. Providing the perfect opportunity to visit a remarkable property, this festival is also designed to raise funds for the good folk at Franklin Hospice. Wicked

February 4-26, Sky City Theatre, 78 Victoria Street West, Auckland Flying off somewhere over the rainbow (the West End, Broadway, or even Kansas) may be out, but one of longest running musical hits is heading to Auckland. The origin story behind the Good Witch of the North and the Wicked Witch of the West, the musical follows two sorcery students whose destinies take different turns after meeting a certain Wonderful Wizard from Aus – wait, no, we have that wrong!
