T

here are only two 1942 Volkswagen Kubelwagens in New Zealand.

One belongs to movie mogul Sir Peter Jackson. The other, belongs to Northpark’s Michael Chong.

The vehicle has been painstakingly restored to its former glory days. It was built during World War II for use by the German military and served during the war.

It’s taken priority in Mr Chong’s family garage, and looks as if it’s come straight from the battlefield. It even features a small swastika on its front bumper – a true sign of its time. At 1200cc, it doesn’t go much faster than 70km/h – but with only 50,435 made before production ceased at the end of the war and with fewer than a few hundred

He says his favourite part of the show is talking with other collectors.

“People are really passionate about their hobby and seeing what other people have [they like] to find out more as well.”

Online registrations for the Auckland Brit & Euro Classic Car Show have now closed with 802 cars and motorcycles registered.

Mr Chong secured his slice of history in 2009 – although he was originally in the market for a 1952 Volkswagen.

The car, which was in “really poor condition”, required a significant amount of restoration to make it roadworthy again, which was eventually completed in 2011.

It’s his third time exhibiting in the Brit & Euro Classic Car Show but he hasn’t always been interested in vintage cars – he said that only sparked around 20 years ago.

Police are on the hunt for suspects following an attempted break in at Pakuranga Plaza early on Tuesday morning.

Police received reports of the incident at around 5am.

“A group of offenders were seen throwing rocks in an attempt to gain entry into the plaza however they were unsuccessful,” says Senior Sergeant Pete Kaveney.

“They fled in what is believed to be a black vehicle which headed toward Glen Innes.”

Police are conducting area inquires which will include reviewing CCTV footage.

Police are asking for anyone who might have information on the incident to contact Senior Sergeant Peter Kaveney from Counties Manukau Police on 261-1321.

otany Town Centre is to undergo a multi-million development which will begin this month with a completion date set for May 2019.

AMP Capital on Friday announced a $78 million development and expansion project at Botany Town Centre, one of Auckland’s largest regional shopping centres.

The development will include the introduction of international and national retailers; an additional mix of speciality retailers, a comprehensive refurbishment to Garden Lane, a refresh of the fresh food precinct adjoining the New World supermarket and an expansion of the alfresco dining offer. This is in addition to the existing entertainment precinct which includes HOYTS undertaking a major refurbishment, with the upgrade of more than 1000 powered recliner cinema seats, updates to the HOYTS LUX premium cinema experience and more.

Boy hit by car, seriously injured, now recovering An 11-year-old boy is now home after being hit by a car on Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to the scene on Bucklands Beach Rd, near the Highland Park intersection at 3:09pm.

The boy was taken to Middlemore Hospital with serious injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.

Year 9 picnic Howick College is welcoming the new batch of Year 9 students with a picnic this year to kick-start their journey through high school.

Chinese new year

Cultural fiesta brings communities together There was such a festive atmosphere as hundreds of people celebrated Chinese Lunar New Year with great gusto at the Botany Town Centre on Saturday and the Pakuranga Plaza on Sunday afternoon.

“This day is celebrated with millions of people in China, with lots of song, dance, food and entertainment.

It’s like the Oscars of the East,” said the master of ceremonies.

From the lion dance to traditional folk dances, Chinese orchestra and the tiny tots putting on an entertaining performance, the Lunar New Year celebrations organised by founder of Pakuranga Chinese Association Barry Hung and assisted by local board member Peter Young, was funded by the Howick Local Board.

Also very popular was the God of Wealth, one of the most photographed people at the free cultural fiesta that welcomed the Year of the Dog. Plenty of street stalls from handicrafts to those creating social awareness truly brought the local community together.

he timing was perfect. On the day of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in South Korea, 19 school ambassadors at Farm Cove Intermediate were ceremoniously honoured for their support with pastoral care provided to students from South Korea.

It was a celebration of leaders as role models.

School ambassadors and councillors were acknowledged for reaching out to the South Korean students with a badge and colourful lei representing different nationalities.

Encouraging values of cultural intelligence, the school ambassadors at Farm Cove Intermediate work though out the year supporting international and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students.

Farm Cove Intermediate has around 18 Korean students visiting from Cheongju Girls High School and Jusung Middle School for three weeks.

The school also has a handful of Korean home stay students on the school roll.

Some of the young leaders who take pride in their role and wear their badge like an Olympic gold, accompanied the visiting Korean students for a tour of the Sky Tower while another lot of student leaders

Year 8 student Hazel Tautua who visited South Korea on a school trip last year, says that she enjoys making new friends and getting to know the Korean way of life “though they drive on the other side of the road and their food is quite different,” she says.

The exchange that helps develop globally engaged citizens of tomorrow, has 12-year-old Jaedon Burgess saying he keeps a close eye on the Korean students.

“We are there to support them and help them find their way around

school.”

Lead teacher International and ESOL Department Diane Scarrow says that the school has a wide range of ethnicities and “this gives our students a cultural understanding as they closely interact with students from other cultures.

It adds to the richness and vibrancy of our school.”

Having lived a year in Japan, she brings empathy to the role that is all about sharing and caring.

Korean student Joseph Lee says that the point of difference between his school and the Farm Cove Intermediate is that “this school is not strict – and much more relaxed.”

Cancer survivors are being encouraged to pick up a paddle and get out on the water in a new initiative.

PaddleOn, a four week stand up paddle-boarding (SUP) programme, launched at Bucklands Beach with the aim of helping cancer survivors get back on track.

The programme, delivered by certified Pinc & Steel physiotherapist Catherine Noventa, works to improve confidence, balance, strength, posture, flexibility and fitness in those who have completed cancer treatment. “There’s so much research out there now about cancer survivorship and people surviving longer and having fewer recurrences if they exercise,” Noventa says.

“PaddleOn is a great way for cancer survivors to ease back into exercise and gain all the benefits of learning something new, having a laugh and meeting others who have experienced something similar to them.”

Noventa, from Howick House Physio, has been working with

cancer patients for 25 years and says often survivors suffer from ongoing physical and psychological problems after treatment.

“There is this tendency among some survivors to believe that if they are in remission that they are really lucky and they should just get on with it and not complain,” she says. “But often they suffer for years following their treatment with serious fatigue, muscle problems and painful scarring - just a small number of challenges they face.” She’s spent the past two years rallying to get PaddleOn offered in east Auckland and hopes it will encourage cancer survivors to reach out and take advantage of rehabilitation available to them.

“It’s about survivorship, and not just about surviving, but about thriving after cancer.”

ayor Phil Goff this week announced significant new resources to tackle illegal dumping in Auckland, unveiled as part of a new initiative, including a new 0800 hotline to report dumpers.

“Illegal roadside rubbish dumping has blighted our city, harmed our environment and burdened ratepayers with the costs of clean-up,” he said.

“I’m sick and tired of it, Aucklanders are sick and tired of it and I’m calling on members of the public to help us tackle the problem.

“Since I started raising the issue over the summer holidays the public have told me they want action. That is what we are delivering.”

Mr Goff said that to help council to act, people need to report illegal dumping and help council with any evidence that may lead to prosecutions.

“We have made it easier for people to report illegal dumping by setting up 0800 NODUMP – a dedicated phone line to simplify the reporting process,” Mr Goff said.

“I’m calling on our communi-

ties not to accept the irresponsible actions of a few individuals and cowboy commercial outfits, and to report illegal dumping.”

Other actions being rolled out include hiring additional enforcement staff, doubling the number of surveillance cameras in hotspot areas and speeding up the process to clean up dumped material in public areas.

Alongside those measures, the mayor said Auckland Council was improving its communications to help better inform the public about inorganic collections, recycling and ways to reduce their waste.

“People have been asking for better information on what they can do with their residential waste,” he said.

“We have made this material more accessible through the makethemostofwaste.co.nz website, and improved the council website to make it easier to find out about inorganic collections.”

Posters are also being distributed to libraries, leisure centres and service centres across Auckland explaining 0800 NODUMP and directing people to further information.

With a new focus on mechatronics, students of Howick Intermediate School are working on technology solutions by using a trans-disciplinary approach.

In the classroom, lead teacher Sarah Baleicakau challenges the students to work out the dimensions of a truss bridge that can take the weight of a robotic truck. Students are learning about the angles and

dimensions of a bridge underpinned by a scientific component.

“If we want to engage children, they must see the relevance,” says Ms Baleicakau.

“It has a trans-disciplinary approach and students learn how the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) build on one another.

“We want students to experience working as engineers and they will use coding and robotics and the STEM disciplines to address authentic inquiries.”

The eight-week structured programme increases the students’ understanding on how the disciplines are integrated and build on one another.

e could have easily bought a bigger house with the money but he invested it (around $200,000) in a precious art collection.

So passionate is Yongjie Li, specialist advisor, Community Empowerment Auckland Council about Chinese Opera that he has accommodated an art museum at his home.

The community worker celebrated his birthday and the Chinese Lunar New Year on the weekend with the opening of New Zealand Shandong Art Gallery and the New Zealand MaoQiang Opera Museum at his residence in Highland Park.

Mao-Qiang is a local folk opera style from the Jiazhou Peninsula of Eastern China.

Presenting the collection for future generations, he said: “It took me about 30 years to collect the old records, cassette tapes, historical articles, drama brochures and costumes at the cost of half a million Chinese dollars.

“This collection contains approximately 600 hours of audio and video records covering the Mao-Qiang stageperformances from the 1950s to present. I feel privileged to bring these valuable, historical records for protection and display to the New Zealanders; but also feel sad as the national cultural essence has lost its popularity in its hometown,” he said.

Help crack down on synthetic drugs A few weeks ago, my Members Bill was drawn from the ballot to go before the House of Representatives. This Bill is called the Psychoactive Substances (Increasing Penalty for Supply and Distribution) Amendment Bill and is designed to increase the penalties for those found guilty of supplying these harmful drugs.

We need to crack down on the supply of psychoactive substances and ensure that those supplying them are sentenced appropriately, taking into account the awful harm they are causing in the community. There have been a number of deaths attributed to the use of these drugs, and the current maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment does not fit the crime.

My Bill will increase the penalties associated with the already-illegal distribution of psychoactive drugs, pushing the maximum jail term from two years to eight years. This would bring it in line with the penalties for the supply

of Class C drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1975, and my hope is that this will serve as a further deterrent to those who are irresponsibly providing them.

We also need to promote better ways of helping those who are suffering and provide support to their families. Last week I launched a petition to sit alongside my Bill, which asks that Parliament open a select committee inquiry to look into the care provided to those who are addicted to these drugs and make recommendations about what more we can do to help.

These drugs are affecting communities and families across New Zealand, so I encourage anyone who is concerned to sign this petition so that we can crack down on the suppliers of these drugs, and support those who are suffering from them.

piano.

The piano is on loan from Howick local Barbara Stroud for two years, bringing the majestic instrument back into the light after being in storage.

The decision to loan the beloved piano wasn’t an easy one, says Barbara, admitting she thought about it for a long time before going through with it.

Uxbridge Arts & Culture event manager Ashley Grogan said the piano is a wonderful score for the centre.

“Something’s been missing in the theatre [and] when musicians come, they want to play on the grand as opposed to an upright piano. Visually, it looks better and sounds better.”

She hopes the piano will serve as a draw card for bringing more classical music performances to the centre and says she’s already received interest around the piano.

Barbara, a musician herself,

says the decision to loan the piano was spurred by an interest in helping young musicians get a start in the industry.

“I thought about it for two years before going through with it and I thought it should be here being used. I’m very into young people performing and helping them on their way with scholarships and things [and] this is the perfect venue for them to do that,” she says.

“That’s my dream, to [help] young people – giving them an opportunity, giving back to the community.”

The number of properties sold in New Zealand during January 2018 increased by 2.7 per cent when compared to January 2017 (4366 up from 4,251). The number of properties sold in Auckland increased 0.9 per cent year-onyear to 1,157 up from 1,147.

Regions with the biggest increase in sales count year-onyear were: ■■ Nelson – up 27.9 per cent (78 compared to 61 in January 2017) ■■ Canterbury – up 18.1 per cent (607 compared to 514 in January 2017) ■■ Tasman – 15.8 per cent (44 compared to 38 in January 2017) ■■ Gisborne – up 12.5 per cent (36 compared to 32 in January 2017).

Bindi Norwell, chief executive at REINZ says: “January can often be a quiet month for the industry as people spend much of their time at the beach or the bach.

However, clearly the warmer weather has helped sales, as it’s the first time we’ve seen a positive year-on-year sales increase in seven months.

“There were some really positive figures from around the country, with 11 out of 16 regions experiencing an increase in sales when compared to the same time last year. Additionally, Gisborne saw the highest number of properties sold in the month of January since January 2007,” continues Norwell.

The median house price for New Zealand increased by 7.1 per cent to $520,000, up from $485,500 in January 2017.

Auckland’s median price decreased by 1.2 per cent to $820,000 down from $830,000 at the same time last year. The only other region to experience a price decrease year-on-year was West Coast, down 10.0 per cent to $135,000.

January also saw two regions experience record prices: ■■ Otago – up 32.9 per cent to $475,000 ■■ Hawke’s Bay – up 18.4 per cent to $438,000.

Otago’s record price for January was driven by a strong increase in Clutha and the Central Otago District – up 53.4 per cent and 39.4 per cent respectively,” says Norwell.

“Looking at the decrease in median price in Auckland, much of the reduction is attributable to the decreases in Manukau City, Rodney District and Waitakere City which were down -10.2 per cent, -4.3 per cent and -2.8 per cent respectively. Manukau City’s median price is the lowest since January 2016, Rodney’s is the lowest median price since September 2017 and Waitakere’s is the lowest since March 2016, so you can see why this has pulled the overall Auckland median down,” she continues.

Days to sell The median number of days to sell a property nationally increased by 5 days from 41 days in January 2017 to 46 days in January 2018. Nationally, this is the highest median number of days it’s taken to sell a property since February 2012.

Regions with the biggest increase were West Coast (+87 days to 159), Taranaki (+16 days to 56) and Gisborne (+13 days to 43). The only region with a decrease in the number of days to sell year-on-year was Northland – down 3 days to 45.

REINZ House Price Index (HPI) The REINZ House Price Index for New Zealand, which measures the changing value of property in the market, increased 3.4 per cent year-on-year to 2,655. The HPI for New Zealand excluding Auckland increased 6.6 per cent from January 2017 to a new high of 2,491 and Auckland’s HPI increased 0.1 per cent for the same period.

The REINZ HPI also showed that 6 out of 12 regions experienced a new high in January – Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Manawatu/Wanganui, Otago and Southland.

Regions with the highest growth year-on-year were Gisborne/Hawke’s Bay 13.7 per cent, Southland 13.2 per cent and Manawatu/Wanganui 11.6 per cent.

Auctions Auctions were used in 6 per cent of all sales across the country in January, the same percentage as January 2017, with 246 properties selling under the hammer.

Of those properties sold by auction, the majority (143 or 58.1 per cent) were in Auckland. As Auckland accounts for 26.5 per cent of all sales nationally, it accounts for the lion’s share of auctions. The Bay of Plenty saw 31 auctions, Otago had 20 and the Canterbury region saw 12 properties sold under the hammer. The Auckland region saw a 4.4 per cent increase in auctions year-on-year.

Cladding class action: group numbers double A

group of more than 160 homeowners has been confirmed to take a $30-$40 million claim against cladding manufacturer James Hardie.

Numbers for the leaky home group who have properties clad in either Harditex or Titan Board more than doubled in the five-month opt-in period granted by the Court of Appeal in late August 2017. The final deadline was midnight January 31.

Parker & Associates partner Dan Parker says repair costs are typically upwards of $250,000 per building on average and it is estimated the claims will together total between $30m to $40m.

Thousands of properties were built using Harditex from 1987 until the early 2000s and Titan Board was widely used from 1995.

The Howick-Pakuranga area greatly expanded during this time, as many new residential subdivisions were developed.

She was looking for a change after 19 years. Diana Cernohorsky felt that her home at Huntington Place needed a bit of a spruce up. She thought of changing the carpets but her niece suggested that maybe a new kitchen would make a huge difference. And she was right.

Two long-time friends are encouraging people to get in the boxing ring to raise funds for charity.

The Battle on the Coast Fight Night, organised by Dave Raffaelli and Troy Morgan, will be held at Te Puru Sports Hall in Beachlands on March 24 with proceeds donated to Totara Hospice.

It won’t be their first shot at organising a fight – Raffaelli says he’s organised “a fair few” in the past, and has already worked

with Morgan on one event.

Raffaelli says events like Fight for Life helped white collar, or corporate boxing grow in popularity and has created a niche today. “[There’s] guys who work 9-5 jobs or tradies who work full on and can’t commit to team sports but are too old to be amateur boxers (under 25 years old) but don’t want to go professional.

“For some people, it’s a bucket list activity.” Boxing is for everyone, says Morgan.

“We’ve got a guy who’s never

played sport before [but he’s just really taken it on and dedicated himself to training – some people don’t get into sports but when they box it becomes something for them – a goal they can achieve.

“When they get in there [on fight night] and do it, they’ve really accomplished something.”

The Beachlands locals say they were motivated to put on the local event to give residents a night to look forward to – and make it accessible for people to get there and get home.

“Most of these shows tend to be out towards the city. We’ve got buses on from Highland Park and will be taking people there

target ield and a 14 target animal course.

The club caters for all levels of archers ranging from irst time shooters to world championship winners. Whitford Club has several NZFAA (New Zealand Field Archery Assn) trained instructors that are available each week.

We must salute Sir Murray Halberg’s legacy I

t was nice to see Roy Williams pay homage to Sir Murray Halberg at the Halberg Awards which has raised so much money to inspire disabled sportsmen and women like Olympic sprint champion Liam Malone and sensational swimmer Sophie Pascoe among many others.

Despite a rugby injury which crippled one arm, Sir Murray became New Zealand’s first sub-4 minute miler and overcame the disappointment of failing to medal in the 1500 won

by Ireland’s Ron Delaney at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics by winning gold over 5000m at Rome four years later.

That was the games in which fellow Arthur Lydiard-trained Kiwis Peter Snell and Barry Magee struck gold and bronze medals over 800m and the marathon respectively.

Halberg would be the first to admit that Snell, who struck a golden 800-1500m double at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, was the greater natural talent in terms of power and pace. But I have long held the belief that in achieving the maximum of

which he was capable, no New Zealand athlete surpassed him.

Whereas Snell (Tokyo 1964) and John Walker’s (1976 Montreal) 1500m Olympic golds followed in the tradition of Jack Lovelock’s (1936 Berlin) by making their sprint for glory 300m from the finish, the gutsy Halberg’s 5000m triumph came when he broke from the pack much earlier.

It was an outrageous foxversus-the-hounds gamble that paid a rich reward and epitomised the steely character of a man who also broke a world three-mile record.

I once joked with him that he had acid rather than blood in his veins and his old rival and

great friend Bill Baillie chortled happily in agreement.

But great athlete though he was, it is his establishment of the Halberg Awards in raising so much money for disabled athletes to express their sporting talents that provides the true legacy of a remarkable New Zealander in much the same way as did the late Sir Edmond Hillary’s work with the Sherpas following his conquest of Everest.

There were no surprise that Team New Zealand should win the latest Halberg supreme and team awards upon avenging their San Francisco disappointment in Bermuda against the American challenge backed by Oracle millionaire Larry Ellison and masterminded by Russell Coutts and brash Aussie skipper Jimmy Spithill.

In terms of design, sailing and the innovative introduction of cyclists replacing the traditional role of grinders, it was indeed a complete team performance.

So much so that they refused to nominate brilliant young helmsman Peter Burling for the individual sportsman award.

That went to amiable world shot put champion Peter Walsh with remarkable kayaker Lisa Carrington taking the women’s award upon winning four world medals; two gold, a silver and bronze.

Nor was anyone surprised that fantastic Sophie Pascoe should once again dominate the disabled women’s award.

It’s the achievements of special athletes like her and retired Olympic sprinter Liam Malone that makes us realise just how great Sir Murray’s contribution has been.

Meanwhile full marks to coach Tana Umaga and his young Blues team for winning the Brisbane Tens rugby tournament at Suncorp Stadium.

However it’s disappointing to learn that Steve Hansen plans up to four training camps before France’s mid-year tour which should adversely impact on our Super Rugby franchises.

Howick Pakuranga Cricket Club has gone through to the top four of Auckland Premier Cricket’s Hedley Howarth trophy after an outstanding two wicket stand by Bill Walsh and Cam Neal.

Grafton were asked to bat first at Lloyd Elsmore Park with Dale Phillips picking up career best figures with the ball before Cam Neale scored a century to secure first innings points for Howick Pakuranga.

Grafton’s top order looked to be doing the business early on, with Jack Parsons (40), Ian Cockbain (83) and Nick Hendrie (71) taking their side through to 224/4.

With only a few overs left before an enforced declaration, Dale Phillips took over with the ball, ripping through the Grafton middle order.

Phillips finished with 6-68, his best figures in Premier cricket while Taine Jolley 2-52 played a solid supporting role.

The Howick reply was all about two batsmen, Bill Walsh (96) and Cam Neal (111).

The pair came together in the 17th over and put on a massive 161 runs for the fifth wicket, Neal playing the perfect innings for the situation.

Both batsmen worked singles well and when the ball was there to be put away it was done so with an occasional show of power.

With the bulk of the scoring done by Neale and Walsh, Howick’s tail ensured they got home for first innings points in 47 overs.

Carl de Beer (5-90) toiled hard for the visitors with his leg spin, picking up his 50th Premier wicket with the dismissal of Jolley.

Howick claim the points and will advance to the top four section of the Hedley Howarth.

First XV prepares The school year has just started but the Macleans College First XV is already hard at work fundraising for the trip of a lifetime.

The team is set to travel to the USA and Canada in July for twelve days. Leaving at the end of term two, they’ll fly straight to Vancouver for games against British Columbia U18 and the USA Collegiate U19, before flying to San Francisco for a game against the Northern California All Stars XV. It won’t be all work and no play – the team will also visit Alcatraz Island, see a Major League Baseball game and visit Disneyland for a day.

of fundraising initiatives to cover the $5500 needed for each player to travel.

A recent golf tournament at Pakuranga Golf Club raised $16,000 towards the trip – but there’s still work to do. Upcoming fundraising events include regular Sunday car washes in the school bus bay from 9am1pm, a 5km fun run and selling drinks and food at the college’s athletics days – but Packer says the major fundraiser will be a Quiz Night and Auction to be held at Macleans College on Saturday 12 May. First XV tour captain and Macleans College deputy head boy Sean Wilkie says the tour is “an exciting opportunity.”

rom someone who didn’t fit in and always felt left out at the school sports day, to being appointed as an athlete ambassador for Special Olympics New Zealand, Monique Irvine has come a long way.

Half Moon Bay resident Monique is one of the six athletes with intellectual disabilities handpicked to be a global messenger for Special Olympics New Zealand.

She and five others will take part in four workshops this year focussed on goal setting, communication and presentation, networking, planning and development.

“Being selected as a global messenger is a huge achievement and an amazing opportunity for the athletes,” says Julia Sanson, regional team leader for Special Olympics.

Having just returned from a workshop in Wellington, Monique - the only representative from Auckland says she enjoys the challenge of visiting schools, helping with their sports days and

encouraging students to give everything a go.

“I feel really proud to be a global messenger. I love encouraging people like me to become fit and healthy and enjoy sport and social opportunities that Special Olympics can offer. It’s all about inclusion,” Monique says.

The 28-year-old champion swimmer, who represented New Zealand at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, took second place at the World Summer Games and missed gold by a split-second.

“There is nothing better than hearing your name being yelled from the sidelines and maybe winning a ribbon or medal,” she says Monique believes Special Olympics is all about finishing and it doesn’t matter if you are helping someone from your own team or someone else’s. She is grateful that she has been involved with Special Olympics since she was six-years-old.

sports day, one of the Special Olympics coordinators approached her mother Astrid and asked her to bring Monique along to a school programme she was running.

Monique soon joined the junior athletics team where we did running, ball handling skills and had a go at many different sports.

“A lot of these athletes are still my friends today,” she says.

and 2016, she has participated in eight different sporting games and has recently added one more to her list— cheer leading. “An important part of being an athlete with the Special Olympic family is that it benefits the parents and caregivers too.

“Every athlete needs backing not just from their club but also from parents and family. A big group of my mum and dad’s friends are from Special Olympics and they support each other.”

Monique recently addressed students and staff at the Pegasus Unit, Pakuranga College and students at Beachlands Primary School.

“My goal is to make people aware of this great organisation and how being involved is not only about sporting opportunities but also about networking and friendship with people from around New Zealand.”

She says she would like to get involved with helping junior athletes “and help train them the same way Aroha, the sports coordinator trained me.”
