It will then compare it to the image it has stored in its database. If there is a match, the scan is successful and the employee will be registered as “clocked in�.

Why is a fingerprint used in biometric system?

Each finger of every person has a specific set of characteristics and patterns. No single finger print is similar. Every time your finger print is scanned, it is converted into a binary code for the purposes of verification.

This algorithm cannot be converted into an image making it impossible for anyone to duplicate your prints. After “reading� your print, the biometric attendance keeping will attempt to match the scanned pattern to prescanned images.

Is the fingerprint the only type of biometric measure used?

No, other measures are used as well. These are divided into physiological and behavioural. Physiological biometrics include fingerprints, face, hand geometry, retina, signature, vein, voice and DNA. Behavioural biometrics include how a person walks and brain wave signalling.
