Face recognition is a form of biometric identity authentication. It is based on the unique characteristics of your face. Although there are different types of biometric face recognition systems, the technology usually works the same. The technology may assess 2D images of your face according to specific algorithms, i.e. distance between the eyes or it may analyze specific characteristics by relying on 3D recognition.
What is required to implement a biometric system in the workplace? To implement a biometric face recognition system in your company, you first need to have all your employees registered within the facial database. The facial characteristics of each employee are registered and kept within the system. They will be used later for biometrics authentication and identification.
How does the system work? If an employee needs to gain entry into work, wants to clock in or gain access to a sensitive room (containing confidential information), they must stand in front of a facial scanner. Their face will be scanned for the specific characteristics on the person’s face. The biometrics software will take this information and match with the characteristics listed in the database. This process is called authentication. Once the system has successfully made a match, the employee’s identity is confirmed.
What other functions does facial biometric technology perform? Apart from authenticating and identifying an employee, the software tracks employees who are accessing particular systems, how long they remain at work and whether they accessed those “sensitive� areas within the office. By implementing a biometric system at work, you can monitor employee attendance, time, mobility and even fraud.
