ENGLISH Students build the reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills essential for effective communication. Ninth grade students explore a variety of writing styles and genres, while the tenth grade focuses on British authors. In eleventh grade, students analyze American literature. Seniors explore women’s experiences as expressed by writers from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Honors and AP courses are offered in grades 10 through 12. All seniors participate in a Senior Capstone Project.

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS We believe that the Fine and Performing Arts are both a creative and an academic pursuit.

The development of imagination, creativity, and aesthetic judgment are essential complements to the critical thinking skills developed in other disciplines. AP classes are offered in eleventh and twelfth grades.

MATHEMATICS A rigorous mathematics curriculum fosters acquisition and application of critical thinking and problem-solving skills through real-world STEM applications and group and project-based learning. The program offers sequential study for the first three years of high school. Once a student has completed Algebra II, courses are provided that allow students of all abilities to pursue four years of mathematical studies. Honors classes are offered beginning in ninth grade and AP classes are offered in grades ten through twelve.

RELIGION The Religious Studies program fosters faith development and critical thinking through a seven-year curriculum that challenges, inspires, and educates each student in the foundational elements of the Catholic tradition.

Course content and goals are carefully connected to relevant, meaningful experiences in and out of the classroom.

SCIENCE Notre Dame offers a comprehensive STEM curriculum, where critical thinking and analytical skills are encouraged by a question-oriented, problem-solving approach.

We believe strongly that hands-on experience is central to science education and laboratory exploration is strongly emphasized. The science curriculum addresses the role of women in science and the responsibility to utilize scientific knowledge within a moral values framework. Honors, AP, and independent research classes are offered.

SOCIAL STUDIES The development of critical thinking and writing skills through the study of history, government, economics, and political science is fundamental to the preparation of students as both global citizens and leaders. World History I and US History are required.

In twelfth grade, students may take AP Comparative Government, Global Studies, AP Human Geography or World History II. TECHNOLOGY We are committed to providing our students with a state-of-the-art learning environment that will prepare them to succeed in an ever-evolving, information-based, and highly technological society. Computer Science and Programming classes are offered from tenth grade through our partnership with the Online School for Girls.

WORLD LANGUAGES Students are required to study at least three consecutive years of one language in the high school, although most of our students opt to continue their study of language beyond this requirement. The opportunity to study a second world language is available in tenth grade as an elective. French and Spanish are currently available in Levels 1-5 and AP. Latin is offered in Levels 1-AP and Mandarin is offered at Levels 1-3.

NOTRE DAME SCHOLAR PROGRAMS Notre Dame’s Scholar Programs offer high school students the opportunity to deepen their academic experience as a STEM Scholar of Excellence or Global Citizen Scholar.
