MASS TIMBER: A NEW METHODOLOGY IN DESIGN + CONSTRUCTION

Mass timber is an engineered wood product made from layers of wood bonded together to create strong, lightweight, and sustainable building materials. Unlike traditional timber, mass timber offers the strength to support large-scale buildings, allowing architects and engineers to design taller and more complex structures using wood. Its use is revolutionizing the construction industry by offering a low-carbon alternative to steel and concrete, enhancing sustainability, reducing construction times, and fostering innovative design possibilities in both urban and rural environments.

WHY MASS TIMBER?

Mass timber is redefining the future of construction—offering structural performance, carbon reduction, and design flexibility in one integrated solution. Proven through extensive fire and structural testing, products like glulam and cross-laminated timber (CLT) meet (and often exceed) code requirements for strength, seismic resilience, and fire resistance. Timberlab maximizes the potential of mass timber through precision digital modeling and in-house manufacturing, reducing waste, optimizing material efficiency, and accelerating project schedules. Beyond performance, mass timber brings natural, human-centric design to life—delivering warm, occupant-centered spaces while reducing a building operational and embodied carbon when compared to traditional steel and concrete. As the building industry shifts toward low-carbon construction, mass timber provides a scalable, highperformance path forward without compromise.

BUILD FASTER

One of the leading benefits of opting for mass timber is the enhanced speed of construction, especially for mid-rise and high-rise applications.

CREATE HEALTHIER SPACES

Research has shown that occupying a mass timber building can lead to measurable improvements in well-being, productivity, and stress.

CLEANER JOBSITES

As pre-fabricated material, much of the “construction” process takes place offsite in controlled environments. This allows material to be shipped and installed upon arrival. The result is a more efficient process with less waste.

LESS CARBON EMISSIONS

Since mass timber is comprised of a renewable materials, the impact on the environment is substantially reduced — especially if the forest of origin is sustainabily managed. Many studies have shown that mass timber can reduce a project’s carbon impact by up to 30 percent when compared to concrete and steel.
