The Goshorns Step by Step Fall 2026 Newsletter We had an earthquake on July 18 and have had many tremors almost every day. The Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) reported that the latest earthquake had its epicenter south of Chupaca which is in the province of Huancayo. Authorities are monitoring the area and recommend that residents remain calm and have their emergency kits ready. They believe this could be leading to something bigger. As of now there are many people living in tarped areas which is very cold at night. We are somewhat surprised at the amount of tarped covering the government has helped with. What we see though is the further away from the more congested areas you go there is a lot less help. We now have a new president. Keiko Fujimori is the daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori. When in office he had over 30,000 women forcibly sterilized and in 2000 was sentenced to 25 years for human rights abuses.
The Bible studies in the prison continue to be a huge success. In July we also had a medical campaign at the women's prison. Over 90 women were treated and given reading glasses. We also had a dentist with the campaign and he has agreed to return to the prison twice a month for treatments once we are able to purchase portable equipment. Our kids club continues on Saturdays with a steady 35 or so kids plus a few moms. It’s awesome watching the kids grow and participate in the lessons. Luzmida is doing a great job in presenting the lessons.
Along with many activities we also had photo day. It’s a big deal when they receive a photo of themselves along with a frame. We feel a little old when we see one of our kids on the streets that we had 12 years ago and they’re in they’re 20’s. Marga was one of our kids at the orphanage when we first came to Peru. She and her sister left the orphanage and lived with us for a couple years. She has since graduated from the university with a degree in law. Very proud of her. We’re preparing for Christmas for the kids in the program this year and we’re looking for people who would like to join us. We will be buying notebooks, purses for the girls, pouches for the boys and animal bags for the young ones, socks, hats and small crochet animals. The bags, hats and animals will be bought from the women in the prison. The cost is $16.60 a child. Also, since we had left over money from Mother's Day, we will use that to give the Moms 2kl rice, 2kl pasta and 3 cans of milk along with a Bible.
We humbly thank you for your continued prayers and financial support. If you haven’t yet, we ask that you would prayerfully consider financially supporting this ministry in Peru. Without more financial partners this ministry can not continue to grow. We love you all and thank you for being part of God’s work in Peru.
HOW YOU ALL CHANGED A LIFE We met Gianfranco when he was around 5 years old at one of our kids programs. He was born deaf. You could yell in his ear and he would hear nothing. He would attend every kids club and never miss. He would also be the most attentive when we had a movie even though he couldn’t hear. His cousin would bring him because they were worried he could be struck by a car since he couldn’t hear a horn. His father left when he found out his baby was deaf and has never contacted him or his wife again. His mother did everything possible for him. She tried learning sign language and she actually did pretty good. In the mountains of Peru there are no schools of any kind to help with the deaf. His life was surely doomed as far as being able to live on his own and have much of a future. Jennifer and I took him and his mother to Lima to have him tested. After some time we were contacted by the doctor and were informed that a surgery to install a cochlear implant could be done. This procedure was very expensive and there was no way the mom or her parents could pay for it. They were probably the poorest family in the area. We put out a request for financial help and started an account with our mission agency. After a few years we raised the money for his surgery, so we drove to their house and informed the mom. She just broke down crying and held onto Jennifer. She never dreamed that kind of money was possible and especially given by people she never knew. We explained that Christians tend to have big hearts. We wanted to let everyone know in the states that Gianfranco can now hear and is about ready to finish high school. His life has changed completely because of generous people in the states. Jennifer and I are so very thankful. Gianfranco Now
Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
