The Goshorns Step by Step July 2022 This is a photo of Sandy, Kelley and their almost 4 year old daughter Samantha. We met this family the summer of 2020 when everything was shut down and nearly everyone was out of work. Samantha had an infection and high fevers that lead to convulsions when she was 8 months old. She has been on antiseizure medications and other treatments since then. Your generosity each month has helped us pay for these expensive medications she desperately needs and Sandy and Kelley want you to know how very grateful they are. The Doctors told the parents early on that Samantha would not make it past 4 years old. In recent months she has developed severe digestive issues, abdominal pain and weight loss. It is heartbreaking to see this little one in so much pain all the time. She cannot eat and when she does she vomits everything up. The family recently made their second trip to Lima this year to see specialists about her declining health. They were told that there is not much to be done. Please be in prayer for this young couple as they care for their little one whose health is declining rapidly.

We continue to have many needs with the Venezuelans and Peruvians. We also need to order more Bibles. Please consider joining us with your Prayers and financial support.

Romans 12:13

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

We humbly thank you for your continued prayers and financial support. If you haven’t yet, we ask that you would prayerfully consider financially supporting this ministry in Peru. Without more financial partners this ministry can not continue to grow. We love you all and thank you for being part of God’s work in Peru.

Busy, busy busy. That is the only way to describe the last few months. Not complaining, we are loving it. Our eldest son Daniel and his family recently moved to Peru. They will be living less than 30 minute walk from our home. There are not enough hours in the day to spend with our precious grandkids. Tim has been very busy on the coffee farm. It has been a little frustrating for him as finding additional workers has been difficult, and the rain just won’t go away for a long enough time so that the bulldozer can come and clear some land to build a small house. Nevertheless, the coffee looks good and he and Salvador will be entering the Peru’s Coffee of Excellence contest starting in August and going through October. They are hoping to make some good contacts and learn more about processing coffee. Please pray that the land on the farm can be cleared soon so building can begin on the house. We want to be able to spend more time there and connect better with our neighbors. We will be having a medical team next year which will be working in a town near the farm. We are also looking for a small construction team of 4-8 people, who like camping, to help with some building on the farm. Please contact us if you are interested in leading the construction team. We would also love a small team to help us in Huancayo with our programs. We miss having teams and are ready to get back into it. We opened a small Coffee Shop and restaurant in June. It is going well despite a few snags in the beginning. Our staff is mostly those who have been struggling to find consistent work and wages. We have both Peruvians and Venezuelans, and everyone is getting along great. When we opened I gave the employees, most of whom never worked in a restaurant or kitchen, a little basic instruction and then just stepped back and watched. It was difficult not to just tell everyone what to do, but I wanted to give them a sense that this was their project and I wanted to see who would step up as a leader in taking initiative and problem solving. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by several employees who just jumped right in and put forth good ideas. I will soon step back even further and make them managers. It is exciting. Employment is a vicious cycle here, especially for Venezuelans. They are so willing to work but they do not receive the promised wages and as a result cannot pay their rent. Therefore, when they are evicted they cannot find another place to rent because “Venezuelans do not pay their rent.” So frustrating. We can see the physical and mental change in some of our workers. They are happy. After being on the streets selling candy for nearly two years, wondering if they will earn enough to feed their children and pay their rent, they have a secure job. They are learning employable skills, they are out of the weather and always receive their wages. The men especially warm my heart because they are getting their confidence and self worth back as they are able to provide for their families. It’s beautiful. Please pray that the restaurant is successful. The plan is, once it starts earning money, the employees will receive bonuses and raises. It is for them and any profit is theirs. We use the restaurants on Sundays for Bible study and worship and we are hoping to have some Bible studies and English classes during the week in the future.
