JANUARY 2012

THE GOSHORNS

On New Years Day we had the privilege of sharing God’s call into missions at Roseland UMC in Florida, what a warm and supportive congregation. While we were there, we were able to visit some of Jennifer’s relatives before heading to Lake Yale for a 5 day regional gathering and training session with The Mission Society. In attendance were over 100 missionaries from the Americas, along with several from Africa, China & Russia. The purpose of this gathering was to learn about new communication procedures, how to conduct inductive bible studies, missional communities, and ministry & growth plans, all while enjoying great worship and fellowship with other missionaries. This time was encouraging for us as a family. We were able to hear first hand about the ups and downs, the successes and disappointments of those who have gone before us. Daniel, Matthew & Katie, along with their classes, were able to form relationships with other missionary kids (“MK”s). Our family was made part of The Mission Society’s Northwest South American group. As a result, we will be a part of group meetings every few months via Skype, to have discussions and be able to share ideas and concerns with fellow missionaries. This opportunity makes us aware that we are part of a team whose purpose is to “go and make disciples.”

We’re extremely excited to report that we have reached 60% of our monthly pledges. We heard a great quote at the gathering, “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” The whole family has all said “we’re ready, lets get going!” YOU CAN HELP. This isn’t a question of who is called? or have you been called?, but how will you respond to God’s call on your life? The Bible teaches us that all Christians are called by God to serve in His kingdom. The callings on us may vary , but the call is to us all. Thank you for asking the Lord if this is something He wants you to be involved in.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” -Ephesians 2:10

STEP BY STEP While the last few years have been challenging, we have learned a lot about ourselves and each other as we prepare to live in ministry as a family. Through the many changes we have experienced thus far, such as homeschooling (the boys had to give up football and wrestling, activities they were both passionate about), public speaking (Tim has become much more comfortable with that challenge), meeting and sharing God’s call with small groups and individuals, and finding partners who will financially support us, we as a family are more united and focused than ever on the adventure the Lord has set before us.
