The Goshorns Step by Step April 2016 A NEW HOME We started off the month spending most of our time moving to a new home. I told Jennifer we had boys so they could help us with things like this but they so conveniently now live in the states:) We were blessed to have help from our Peruvian friends and I also found out that Katherine has become very strong. We don’t know why the Lord has blessed us with a much larger home, but we plan on using it to glorify Him. While we’ve been busy turning the house into a home, Jennifer celebrated a birthday. This was kind of fitting since she also celebrated a birthday the first couple weeks in our first home. We had a blessed time with around 30 of our Peruvian friends.

Louise, who was a missionary in Huancayo and also a dear friend, retired this month. Jennifer traveled to the prison with Louise and a couple Peruvians every week to have Bible studies. Jennifer is solely in charge of this ministry now. Prayers for Louise as she starts life again in the states and for Jennifer.

The rainy season is about over in Peru and so Salvador, one of our team members and I traveled

deeper into the mountains to meet with 20 pastors and local people of Lucma. Some pastors walked 3 to 4 hours to attend this meeting. We discussed starting training for discipleship groups. There seemed to be a lot of interest and so we’re in the process of working out the details. A once a week study would be ideal, but with the travel time of some of the pastors and our 3 hour drive, we feel twice a month will be best for now.

We were approached by a local pastor about starting another Bible study/ feeding program in a very poor area of Huancayo. About a month ago a boy there died from malnutrition.

We’re working out the details and plan to start next week. Between the two programs we’ll probably have around 150 kids to feed and share Christ with.

We also plan on having kids club with all of them.

FEELING HELPLESS

During our Saturday feeding program an eighteen year old boy showed up. I noticed that he never looked directly at us and when he sat to eat he said his own silent prayer. His name is Anthony and when I asked if he knew Jesus he said “Yes”. He’s from Lima and is in Huancayo this week visiting his aunt. I also found out he can’t read or write. He said that he can’t see very good and that when he was eight years old he fell and “broke” his head. The scars were obvious from this accident. He doesn't know who his father and he has nine other siblings most of which have different fathers. He lives alone in a small house his mother owns but she’s in a different area of Lima. She will not allow him to stay with her even though he’s handicapped.

Since he cannot read, write or see well, he sells candy on the streets of Lima. He said he’s the only Christian in the family and that he has pain in his heart for his mom. I find this amazing since he also told me how his mom beat him when he was younger. His brothers and sisters don’t have anything to do with him except when he doesn’t have money for his mom and she sends a couple of his brothers to find and beat him. By the grace of God he found a church close to where he lives and he discovered Jesus. It sounds like the people in the church do what they can for him. They helped him with some bus money so he could visit Huancayo. He knows a bit of Scripture that he learned by listening to people. I then told him I had an audio Bible and I would give it to him so he can have his own Bible. When I gave it to him he smiled so big and said it’s the first time in his life he’s ever received a gift. He said he would like to live with his aunt here in Huancayo but he can’t because his mother will make trouble for her. A few days later we took him to see an eye doctor, it was the first time he had seen a doctor since his accident. Unfortunately, the problem with his eyes is neurological. When I told him that the doctor said that glasses wouldn't help, his eyes filled with tears. The doctor gave us the name of a neurological doctor in Lima, but this is probably not an option.

Prayers are needed all around. We become so tired feeling helpless but God always steps in and takes control. Pray that the Lord will wrap His arms around Anthony and that he will continue following Christ.

Matthew 25:35-40 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?

When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
