2020 sure has been an interesting, and fair to say tumultuous, year so far. Despite the difficulties that Covid 19 has placed upon us all, New Zealanders have continued to embrace their passion for renovation and interior design, resulting in some pronounced product trends throughout our Tile Depot stores. Whilst 2020 may prove to be a year most of us will want to forget, we thought we would instead celebrate some of our best and most popular products (so far) that have created a lot of excitement and joy for both staff and clients alike.

The following is a carefully curated collection of our favourite and best selling products in 2020. We have seen a real increase in the use of colour, texture and metallic-effect tiles this year, particularly on the walls, and often used in conjunction with wood and stone-effect floor coverings.

There is a definite pull back to nature in these chaotic times with the use of forest greens and oceanic blues conveying tranquility and calm in our interiors. There has also been a strong trend towards old world luxe and glamour with Victorian and Hollywood Regency influences evident in large textured panelling, metallic features and polished finishes. Surrounding ourselves with both luxury and nature but conveyed in truly modern and edgy ways in a time where we are spending increasing periods in our homes, makes a lot of sense.

Pressed tin was believed to have been first used to patch a ceiling in Brooklyn New York in 1885. It was a cheaper alternative to the decorative plaster ceilings popular in Europe at the time, and soon became a major trend in Victorian buildings in North America throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Now it’s back and better than ever, as a porcelain tile to adorn contemporary walls. “Tin� porcelain stoneware is available in a 440x440mm tile, divided into 4 smaller tile sections.
