For years I’ve longed to work with Autumn celebration motifs, like adorable Trick or Treaters, but since I didn’t grow up with these traditions, it took time for them to feel familiar enough that I could find my own take on them. We didn’t start celebrating Halloween as we do today until around 2000 in Norway, but the precursor to Halloween, “All Hallows Eve,” has a long tradition in Europe. Norwegian children now grow up with Halloween and dress up to go trick-or-treating, but the older generation is not used to this tradition and might not have any treats on hand, so no tricks! As in most countries, we also have something called “Høstakkefest” (Autumn-thanksfeast), which is similar to Thanksgiving in America, although not as big. A Festive Autumn is a personal take on Autumn celebrations, blending new and old traditions with a somewhat Nordic vintage look.

The Trick or Treat quilts and the Cozy Halloween quilts and pillows are quite figurative and complicated, but so much fun. There are also some easier projects, especially the Lazy Autumn quilts and pillows, which are great for new beginners.
