Seville

Situated

on the river

Guadalquivir, southern Spain’s largest city has been home to Carmen, Don Juan and Figaro, and its gothic cathedral is the resting place of Columbus. This city is full of romance, culture, cuisine, history and more.

You don’t need to love Spain or its culture to fall in love with this vibrant and exciting City, Seville is phenomenal.

If you love shopping then Calle Sierpes (street of snakes) is great for: fashion clothing and shoes, traditional Flamenco shoes, Mantillas, fans and costumes. You will also find a staggering choice of wedding dresses here.

It really is worth taking the carriage from The Cathedral Square at the beginning of your trip to acquaint yourself with Seville’s landmarks and layout. There is so much to

see, be sure to climb the Giralda Tower for a spectacular view of the city.

A must to visit is Plaza de España. Designed by Aníbal González and constructed for the Latin American Expo of 1929. It has been completely renovated and restored to its gorgeous original splendour. The ornate bridges leading from the building cross a canal which has rowing boats to hire, to a circular fountain around which parade horses and

carriages. Princess Leia walked over one of the bridges in Star Wars!

It is a favourite spot for Sevillanas to pose for their wedding photos.

With the plethora of cafés, bars and restaurants you will be spoilt for places to eat.

GARRY Bushell

Presentation of the new novel “Face Down”

GARRY Bushell’s new novel Face Down is hard-hitting, sexy pulp fiction that rattles along like a Japanese bullet train. The former rock writer turned TV critic and broadcaster specialises in darkly humorous detective books. His style has been likened to ‘Mickey Spillane with a dash of Mickey Flanagan.

Face Down is the third part of his Harry Tyler trilogy, but can be read as a stand-alone novel. The story centres on an angry vigilante who starts

assassinating criminals who he believes have been treated too leniently by the courts. Kent police are stumped until they spot a possible link to the shootings and an outspoken rightwing newspaper columnist.

Jailed South London crime lord Johnny Baker, known as Johnny Too, agrees to be the bait to lure the killer into the open. There’s just one problem – he wants retired undercover detective Harry Tyler, the man who put him away, to be part of the plot. And Harry’s supposed to be dead...

Woolwich-born Garry, who now lives in Sidcup, says: “People kept asking me what Harry Tyler would do next; for all his flaws as a human being, they seem to really like the character. I didn’t want to leave Harry in limbo either, so I’m delighted happy to have finished the trilogy.”

The fast-moving book explodes with snappy

dialogue but be warned, it isn’t for the faint-hearted. The authentic language would make a fish-wife blush.

Garry, whose Bushell On The Box TV column now appears in the Daily Star Sunday, began his writing career in the rock weekly Sounds. Recently he has published books about 2-Tone (Dance Craze – Rude Boys On The Road) and the 1979 Mod Revival (Time For Action).

The Face, published in 2001, introduced undercover cop Harry and told how he brought down the vicious South East London crime family the Bakers. A film version is currently in pre-production. The second book, Two-Faced saw Tyler turn renegade and escape a lonely death in Ireland after being set up by MI5.

Face Down is published in October 2013 by Caffeine Nights.

QUESTION

“Hi Maggie, I have a minimal budget, just a blank canvas no curtains or accessories, what should be my key pieces?”

Nicola from Chislehurst.

ANSWER

“Hi Nicola, Create an illusion – there is no need to spend a fortune on curtain fabric as long as the fabric hangs nicely, why not splash out on some luxurious cushions This is very easy and probably the cheapest way of getting all your rooms looking good when on a budget, plus it can give you a modern or contemporary look. It’s ideal for first time buyers. Don’t forget to look at your fabrics in night-light as well as daylight.”

Supporting our troops: Lance Corporal James McBride

Back in July the Club received an email from supporter Lance Corporal James McBride, who along with his search dog, leads patrols on routes in Afghanistan looking for improvised explosives.

Lance Corporal McBride has been in Afghanistan since the beginning of March and is due to leave for home at the end of September. Born and bred in Bromley and a lifelong follower of the Club James asked the Club if they would be kind enough to send out a few souvenirs as his fellow service personnel were holding a themed event on what Club’s different soldiers support.

Happy to assist they sent over a number of items, they received a thank you from James and a couple of photos to share with fellow supporters.

Bromley FC invited James and his family to Hayes Lane upon his return and look forward to keeping in touch with him.

Bromley’s Pierre Joseph-Dubois has been named the Skrill South ‘Player of the Month’ for August. The striker, who took the same award in September of last season, has got The Lillywhites off to a table-topping start with four goals in five games.

New Film Releases for October 2013

TWO GREAT FILMS NOT TO BE MISSED. CHECK OUT A CINEMA NEAR YOU.

Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare’s epic and searing tale of love, is revitalized on screen by writer Julian Fellowes and director Carlos Carlei.

An ageless story from the world’s most renowned author is reimagined for the 21st Century. This adaptation is told in the lush traditional setting it was written, but gives a new generation the chance to fall in love with the enduring legend. With an all-star cast including HaileeSteinfeld, Douglas Booth, Paul Giamatti and StellanSkarsgard, it affords those unfamiliar with the tale the chance to put faces to the two names they’ve undoubtedly heard innumerable times: Romeo and Juliet. Every generation deserves to discover this lasting love.

Remake of the 1976 film, which was based on Stephen King’s novel. The new film will hit theaters 37 years after Brian De Palma’s classic original.

17 years ago Carrie White’s mother, Margaret White, gave birth to her daughter under circumstances which can only be termed bizarre. A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. In cinemas nationwide from Friday October 18th 2013.

Health’s Angels, established over a decade is Kent and South East London’s premier wellness and weight loss clinic. Introducing a revolutionary advanced and newest on the market laser lipolysis system. Aside from fat reduction and instant inch loss, their clients have been astonished at both the skin tightening programmes for body and face as well as their unique ultimate cellulite treatments!

The Fat-Melting Laser system is a safe, painless, non-invasive and fast treatment for body contouring. How does it work?

The Breaking down of the fat cells starts when the laser penetrates the skin and makes contact with the fat cells. Pores form on the cells causing them to “sweat”. The water, glycerol and Free Fatty acids emerge from the cells and occupy the space beneath the layer of the skin. The fat cell is therefore

reduced in size causing significant inch loss in treated areas.

AFTER CARE

• It’s recommended to use power plate immediately after the treatment in our clinic for 10-20 minutes as recommended by our therapist. (this is part of treatment price)

• Aerobic or any cardio exercise for 30 minutes on the day of treatment is encouraged to help stimulate lymphatic drainage of the broken fat cells.

Beauty Feature

8 great foods to help maintain gorgeous skin

PAPAYA

You’ve probably used papaya in a facial scrub, but have you ever eaten it? The fruit is a vitamin C serum and exfoliant all in one. It contains two days’ worth of vitamin C, which helps to brighten and tighten skin. It’s packed with vitamin A compounds, which regulate cell turnover. Papaya also contains the digestive enzyme, papain, which helps decrease redness in the skin by combating inflammation.

R EcipE

Why not try a smoothie made with papaya, almond milk, and honey.

COCONUT KEFIR

Everyone has heard of coconut water, but did you know there is an even richer counterpart, coconut kefir, which is made by fermenting coconut water with beneficial bacteria. A shot of coconut kefir contains 15 billion CFU of probiotics, which is three times more than most commercial yogurt. These beneficial bacteria help keep skin clear by crowding out pathogenic microbes, which can cause acne and hormonal imbalances. Coconut kefir is naturally sweet, which means it can also help to appease cravings for sugar.

R EcipE

Drink coconut kefir first thing in the morning on an empty stomach; this will keep more of the probiotics alive.

BEETS

Beets reverse dull skin by stimulating the lymphatic system and removing waste from our cells, they can also increase the oxygen-carrying ability in the blood by 400 percent, bringing brightness and vitality to the skin.

Easy R EcipE s

16 ounces of beet juice will have skin looking peachy and pretty for up to 12 hours. If juice isn’t your thing, try a roasted beet salad or grate raw beets into a spinach salad.

LEMONS

Lemon juice helps remove fat-soluble toxins and old hormones, which may trigger breakouts and worsen oily skin. Lemon juice also emulsifies fats, which helps keep skin hydrated. The lemon rind contains the flavonoid limonoid, which kills bacteria in the mouth and intestines, preventing bacterial-driven acne flare-ups.

R EcipE

Starting your day with hot water and lemon is no secret in the beauty world, but to get the detoxifying benefits, use the juice of at least half a lemon.

RED CABBAGE

Red cabbage contains anthocyanin’s, the same purple pigment found in blueberries. These phytonutrients help decrease the formation of wrinkles and inhibit hyperpigmentation. Red cabbage has six times more vitamin C than green cabbage. It also contains the detoxifying nutrient sulforaphane, which helps clear toxins from the body that can lead to fine lines.

Easy R EcipE

Add red cabbage to a kale salad and makes a refreshing summer slaw when paired with grated carrots and drizzled with olive oil and lemon juice.

PUMPKIN SEEDS

Pumpkin seeds are loaded with zinc, vitamin E, sulfur, and omega-3 fats, the seeds heal, nourish, restore, and hydrate the skin. They can also repair blemish marks when you’ve had a breakout.

Easy R EcipE s

Eat them raw because their delicate fats are destroyed when exposed to too much heat. Snack on them, toss them into an arugula salad, or add a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds to a smoothie.

TOMATO JUICE

Start your day with a fresh tomato juice. The lycopene in tomatoes helps prevent UVA and UVB damage. Tomato juice also brings back life to dull skin.

Easy R EcipE s

To avoid pesticides, drink organic tomato juice. Alternatively, enjoy a tomato and watermelon gazpacho; watermelon has similar sun-protecting properties as tomatoes.

Pumpkin r isotto, Crispy sage Leaves

ingredients

570ml/1 pint vegetable or chicken stock

1 small onion, chopped

12 fresh sage leaves, chopped finely

2 tbsp olive oil

170g/6oz arborio (risotto) rice

250g/9oz pumpkin or butternut squash, diced small

50g/2oz butter

salt and freshly ground black pepper

For the crispy sage

12-16 fresh sage leaves

2 tbsp sunflower oil

For serving

piece fresh parmesan, or vegetarian parmesan-style grating cheese

preparation method

1. Heat the stock until almost boiling and then keep over a very low heat. In a separate heavy-based saucepan sweat the onion in the oil until soft but not browned. Add the

chopped sage and cook for a couple more minutes.

2. Add the rice and mix well for a few seconds to coat the grains with oil, then pour in one-third of the stock and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook until almost all the stock is absorbed. Add the pumpkin or squash and a little more stock, and continue to simmer gently until the stock is absorbed.

3. From then on add more stock a little at a time, until the pumpkin is soft and the rice nicely al dente. You may not need all the stock, but the texture should be loose and creamy.

4. When the risotto is almost ready, heat the sunflower oil in a small pan and quickly fry the sage leaves until crispy - it takes a matter of seconds.

5. Stir the butter into the risotto, and season well with salt and pepper. Divide into four servings and throw a few crispy sage leaves over each portion. Bring the cheese and a grater to the table for your guests to serve themselves.
