Switch your lights off on Saturday
Join the symbolic switch for Earth Hour on 29 March 2014, in the hour of darkness from 8.30pm. History of Earth Hour Earth Hour first started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007 when 2.2-million households turned off their lights for one hour to make a stand against climate change. Today Earth Hour is much more than just switching off lights for an hour once a year. It’s a growing international campaign to encourage people to make sustainable choices in every aspect of their lives and the act of switching off the lights for the hour has taken on symbolic significance. This year South Africans are being challenged to go one step further by publically responding to the question, ‘How do you honour the Earth?’ with the intention of changing the way we behave towards the environment. “If we all add our voice by sharing our promise, we not only uphold our own best intentions but we can motivate those around us,” says Pedzi Gozo, Executive Manager of Communications, WWF South Africa. “The growing collection of promises forms an inspiring overview of the varied actions that everyday citizens are taking to make a difference.” Answers to this ‘How do you honour the Earth?’ question can be found at www.earthhour.org. za where people and organisations have been making their commitments to protect our planet. Make your promise to the Earth by thinking about the choices you make around food, energy and water use – and what our wider impact is on the environment. Together we are stronger. only SASSI green-listed fish, to the philosophical, such as taking time out to enjoy and appreciate nature, as well as huge environmental commitments made by large corporates like SAA, Nedbank, Pick n Pay and Woolworths. Die Isa Carstens Akademie (ICA) bied ‘n drie-jaar voltydse Diploma in Somatologie, ‘n NQF vlak 6 kwalifikasie. Hierdie is ‘n belowende loopbaankeuse vir jong dames aangesien dermatoloë, plastiese chirurge en dokters in estetiese medisyne toenemend van somatoloë in hul praktyke gebruik maak om behandelingsprosedures aan te vul. Voornemende studente wat as ‘n somatoloog in die estetiese mediese rigting wil werk kan Somatologie studies kies as ‘n alternatief vir daardie kandidate wat byvoorbeeld akademies presteer maar nie vir medies gekeur word nie. Die Isa Carstens Akademie (ICA) is reeds vir 36 jaar een van die mees vooraanstaande opleidingsinstansies op die gebied van gesondheid en velsorg in Suid-Afrika en is ook die eerste CIDESCO (Comitè International D’Esthètique et de Cosmètologie) erkende skool. Stellies spog met 10 Boland atlete! Kultuurweek 2014!
Laerskool Stellenbosch het 3 Maart tot 7 Maart 2014 ‘n Kultuurweek by die skool aangebied. Daar was ‘n wye verskeidenheid vertonings vir die gr. 1–7-leerders aangebied. Ons gaskunstenaars was ‘n Gumbootdans groep, Sonja Herold en Tjokker, Storieskip en ons eie talentvolle musiekpersoneel en leerders. Die week is met ‘n intergraad-redenaars afgesluit. Ouers was welkom om die verrigtinge by te woon en almal het hul gate uit geniet!

Beaumont Primary School Head Prefects
Beaumont’s four head prefects for 2014 were announced on Monday after having gone through a lengthy selection process. They are: Ryan Louw (Deputy Head Boy) Mia van der Merwe(Deputy Head Girl) Samantha Smuts (Head Girl) and Dean Bundy (Head Boy). The 33 prefects to serve the school in 2014 were selected early in October 2013 so that they could closely shadow the 2013 prefects in the final term. They learnt to serve their school, to lead effectively and to work as a team so that they could meet the challenges ahead. Earlier this term, the student council attended a special leadership-training camp and, besides the staff’s input, the current prefects were also involved in the head prefect selection process.

Vanaf 17-21 Februarie het die 0/13A-spanne van De Hoop aan die Egalite Prestige Laerskole Tennistoernooi by Sun City deelgeneem. Albei spanne het tennis van hoogstaande gehalte gespeel. Die dogters het puik gevaar en die toernooi gewen! Die seuns het derde geëindig teen Grey PE en Eikestad. Ons sê dankie aan Agter v.l.n.r. is Morné Franken, Storm Vonck, Niel Raath, Kianne Lubbe, Alexa Rijk Genis en Heinrich Lubbe wat die Wilson- Genis, Judy Serfontein en Mikayla Furlong. Die ouers het die onderwysers die stryd aangesê tydens die Rooftek T20 krieketwedstryd. Ongelukkig moes De Hoop se onderwysers die knie buig as gevolg van die ouers se uitstekende kolfwerk. Water week
During water week (17 – 21 March) the learners discussed where water comes from, uses and how we should conserve it. Our grade 3 learners made raindrops with ideas on how they can save water.
Grade 1 outing
The grade 1 class read ‘In the pond’. After reading the book they decided to go and have a look at the school pond. Many of the learners did not know that there was a beautiful pond at the school! They saw water lilies and water pads, tadpoles, dragonflies and gold fish who nibbled their fingers.

PushBullet By no means is PushBullet new, but thanks to an update this month, the app is now one of the most powerful and useful apps you will ever install on both your phone and computer. For those new, PushBullet began as an incredibly useful app that would allow you to “push” links, files, or other goodies from your com-puter to phone and then back again. We have watched as the functionality for it has grown immensely over the last six or so months, but this month its creators added notification mirroring. With notification mirroring, PushBullet will show a pop-up in your Chrome PC browser every time you get a notification from any app on your phone (assuming you enabled it). You can choose to dismiss it on phone, turn off mirroring from that app, or go on about your business. I don’t know about you, but the fact that I don’t have to pick-up my phone each time it buzzes, and can keep my eyes glued to my computer, plus wipe the notification from my phone, is freaking ground-breaking.
