The state requires an auto inspection for out-of-state vehicles. This is done by the Washington State Patrol for a fee. Vehicle emission tests are also required, depending on the county. There is a fee for emission testing. Call your Washington State Patrol for a fee.

reGiStration & liCenSinG

For more information, go to www.dol.wa.gov. New residents are required to obtain a valid Washington driver’s license within 30 days of taking residence. Applicants must show proof of age and identity and pass the required examinations.

Those who do not have a valid driver’s license in their possession must have proof of license eligibility from the state in which the license was held. There is a fee. Call your local agency for quotes.

Washington license plates can be obtained by providing an emissions test report; previous registration, license plates and title; and a Washington State Patrol inspection slip. If you are from out-of-state, you have 60 days to obtain vehicle license plates.
