THW Design has been a corporate member of the USGBC since 2005; we currently have a staff of 80 employees, including 24 LEED Accredited Professionals. THW implements an Integrated Design Process (IDP), bringing all project stakeholders to the table to establish the project goals, and ensure they are consistent with the mission of the community. An IDP will lend itself to more complete project coordination as well as control the project cost by implementing the projects green goals at the beginning of the design process. THW feels that the green effort on Interior projects should concentrate on Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), which is carried throughout the design and construction process as it will have a long term positive effect on building occupants.
Functionality • A fully functional space is critical, as THW is a growing firm with diverse staff of multiple disciplines, all working together, simultaneously. Numerous user group meetings were held by the design team to gather the needs and desires of the current employees. The list of issues was incorporated within the concept, leaning towards employee ownership and satisfaction. • An open studio concept was chosen to promote ease of communication and camaraderie. The open plan also lends to a connection with the natural environment which has been proven to promote productivity and overall comfort. • All private spaces are connected to the open studios and the exterior environment. Maximizing space while minimizing interior travel with ease of access to those services required on a daily basis all contribute to the success of the space.
