News With great sadness we announce the death of Ajay Kumar Chandel, Director of KAN-THT (a joint collaboration of Kagaku Analysis AB Sweden and Thermal Hazard Technology, UK).

Aged 39, Ajay was a lively person very dedicated to his work.

He was instrumental in establishing KAN-THT in India, providing business development and strategic marketing knowledge to both Indian and International companies.

The KAN-THT team will continue with Ajay’s spirit and energy to work towards the strategic goals he established. He passed away on 10th Dec 2016 in a road accident on the Delhi Jaipur Highway. Our deepest sympathies are with Ajay’s family, friends and colleagues.

ARC New ARC installations in India In this financial year, 6 ARC systems have been sold in the Indian market. RSD New RSD Dosing Option The RSD dosing option has been revised with the aim of making it more straightforward to set up a dosing test. The previous RSD dosing option required the use of two low-phi bombs, one holding the titrant and the other holding the sample. The setup was complex and required several different connections to be made, each of which had the possibility to introduce leaks into the system. The system was also limited to low phi bombs only.

The new dosing option removes the “donor vessel”, so a syringe line is connected directly to an ARC bomb, glass vial or a low phi-bomb.

Inside the RSD chamber the dosing line is coiled to equilibrate the line to the temperature of the bomb. This aims to reduce the temperature difference between the titrant and the sample. The temperature equilibration may not be quite as good as when using the donor vessel, but the ease of use of the system makes up for this.

New RSD Stirring Option The stirring option has also been revised – a new RSD caddy allows under-bomb stirring to be used enabling stirring of both ARC bombs and glass vials. Previously, the electromagnet was placed to the side of the sample holder. The disadvantage of this method is that it can only be used to stir a magnetic flea in a glass vial – the stirring will not work with an ARC bomb as the flux is not strong enough to work at that distance.

To remedy this issue, the position of the electromagnet is moved to underneath the bomb. This means the distance between the electromagnet and the flea is greatly reduced, and the stirring is much more effective. This is made possible with a modified caddy so the electromagnet holder can be placed in a horizontal orientation.

The new stirring method is fully compatible with the existing stirring motor and electronics. The only parts which are changed are the caddy and the electromagnets. Contact THT if you would like to modify your current system.
