Following sustained growth in demand for products, THT has recently expanded the UK headquarters. The new sales office, situated on the same site as our existing facility means we can more easily welcome our clients. More space has also been added to our R&D and production areas, we have also been refurbishing the site at the same time. The new sales office and increased production space will facilitate the continued expansion and growth of the business.

THT UK welcomes new staff Helen Scudamore - Office Administrator, Stephen Hopkinson - Mechanical Assembly Technician and Cathy Conlan - Finance Manager. Cathy takes over from Sonia Jakes who retired after working with THT for 5 years. All at THT offer Sonia our best wishes for the future, it has been our pleasure to know her and to work with her. Over in Dehli Khagesh Vasishtha joins THT-India as Country Manager.

ARC Rotating Hoist Assembly (RHA) To facilitate easier access to the EV+ calorimeter when setting up battery tests, we have introduced the Rotating Hoist Assembly (RHA). The manual hand winch with rotating arm allows the calorimeter lid to be lifted and held in position.

behavior under abuse conditions. New procedures for measuring the external and internal pressure change of cells were developed. The external pressure was measured utilizing a gas-tight cylinder inside the calorimeter chamber, in order to detect the venting of the cells. For internal pressure measurements, a pressure line connected to a pressure transducer was directly inserted into the cell. During the thermal runaway experiments, three stages (low rate, medium rate, and high rate reactions) were observed.

Both the pressure and temperature change indicated different stages of exothermic reactions, which produced gases or/and heat.

The onset temperature of the thermal runaway was estimated according to the temperature and pressure changes.

ARC THT was proud to help organise the 1st International Battery Safety Conference on the 6-7 May this year. The inaugural conference was started to help Chinese researchers better understand and assess the safety challenges with Li-ion batteries in the world’s largest and fastest growing market.
