MANAGER’S NOTES
Welcome everyone to the Mundy Playing Fields for today's game against Longlevens AFC. Thanks to everyone who made the trip to Rocks on Wednesday night, and everyone who has come today. Every game I'm amazed at all the support we are getting and it's a vital boost to the players. After a good start to the season, today proves a good test against opposition who are in the Hellenic League Premier Division. Longlevens won Division One at the first time of asking after promotion from the County League, something which a win today would show we are capable of emulating. Andy Davies, Manager

THORNBURY TOWN CLUB HISTORY It is understood that football has been played in Thornbury from around 1898 and formerly known as Thornbury Sports became Thornbury Town FC in the early 1970’s.
narrowly to Dursley Town. 2001-02 season saw the management team of Dave Wiffill and Steve Burbage take the reins, which brought instant success winning the Bristol Premier Combination title by 13 points and a return to the Gloucestershire County League. This followed a run of thirteen consecutive league wins a club record, which still stands to this day. The league and cup double eluded the club when they were defeated by Sea Mills in the League Cup Final.
Mundy Playing Fields has been the home of the club since the end of World War Two although changing facilities were sited in local places such as the Exchange Hotel, which is now The Knot of Rope. 1968-69 we became founder members of the Gloucestershire County League and spectator figures in excess of 500 were regularly recorded. In 1971 the club finished third in the Gloucestershire County League and was accepted into the Western League. However, due to difficulties in bringing the facilities up to the leagues required standards were unable to take the next step up. Relegation to the Bristol Premier Combination League unfortunately followed in 1976-77.
In preparation for the return to County League football the summer of 2002 saw a lot of hard work undertaken on the Mundy facilities with the building of dug-outs, improved drainage and revamping of the dressing rooms. All this work appeared to have been worth while with the club establishing itself back in the Gloucestershire County league with a creditable 7th league position for the next three seasons. Silverware did come our way in 2003-04 when we defeated Taverners on penalties, after a 2-2 draw, to lift the Stroud Charity Cup. The 2003-04 season, also saw the formation of an Under-18’s side under the management of Terry Payton in order to maintain Youth development within the club and they gained entry to the Gloucester County Youth League.
The following 20+ years saw Thornbury Town strive to regain their former status, never really threatening to take the Premier Combination title. The only success during these lean years was reaching the final of the GFA Senior Amateur Cup in 1985-86 and 198990 unfortunately on both occasions loser’s medals were received.
Following a number of indifferent seasons when relegation back to the Bristol Premier Combination league was only just averted in 2006–07, a new management committee and first team management were appointed.
During the late 1990’s, the Club maintained its strong focus on developing local talent and this eventually bore fruit in 1999 when the final of the Stroud Charity Cup was reached, losing 8
a thornburytownfc.co.uk tf @thornburytownfc highest league position in the Gloucestershire County Youth League finishing runners-up, which was a tremendous achievement for the team and managers Simon Pirie and Mark Franklin.
Dave Lippiatt took over as first team manager, coming to the club from Sea Mills Park bringing with him Carl Derosa as his assistant. With an initial three / four year strategy, which came to fruition during the 2009-10 season when after a steady first half to the season a tremendous winning run of ten league games saw the Surridge Gloucestershire County League title won for the first time in the clubs history.
The 2014-15 season was a very successful season finishing 4th in the league and winning the Les James Cup for the first time in the Club’s history. Andy Davies continues to produce a team of quality which resulted in a third 4th-place in a row in Season 2016-17.
2010 also saw the milestone achievement of the long awaited coming together of the two local football clubs “Thornbury Town FC” and “Thornbury Falcons FC” now under one club management umbrella of Thornbury Town FC without losing the heritage and identity of Thornbury Falcons. This will further enhance the long term development within the local community for junior, youth and senior football.
2017-18 saw the club finally succeed in their quest win the Gloucestershire County League. After a lot of work behind the scenes to gain planning permission for the required ground improvements, the club were accepted into the Hellenic League for the first time in their history.
In the 2010-11 season the final of the Les James Cup Final was reached, which resulted in a penalty shoot-out disappointment against Henbury Town. 2013-14 saw the U18’s in their

LONGLEVENS AFC CLUB HISTORY The Club, in its current format, was founded in 1954. We initially played in the North Gloucestershire League, but currently we operate in the Uhlsport Hellenic League, the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League and the Stroud and District League.
to the Uhlsport Hellenic League. In our first season, in the County League, we finished halfway, but having started poorly in our second season an incredible unbeaten run of 26 League games saw us win the League, although, due to our lowly position, preChristmas, we had not thought of applying to the UHL Hellenic League, but the following season we cruised to the title by 17 points and also won the Les James League Cup, and we were duly promoted into the Uhlsport Hellenic League – and again – more thanks here to Carters for helping us upgrade Saw Mills to the required standard.
Unfortunately, our facilities at the Club HQ fell some way short of the standard required for the next step up, but we had a breakthrough when the City Council created a new venue, at Saw Mills and in season 2011/12, although we had finished outside of the automatic positions for promotion, we were admitted to the Gloucestershire County League. At this point, we must give great credit to E. G. Carter and Company Limited, our major sponsors, because, without them, we could not have got Saw Mills up to the required standard and I am happy to say that they are still the major force for the improvements that we have subsequently made – so “Thank You” Carters, as they are locally referred to!
So, in 2014/15 we started another new phase for the Club, in Division One West of the Uhlsport Hellenic League and what a start! We won the Division at the first attempt, so after three consecutive titles and two consecutive promotions, we found ourselves in the Premier Division and last season recorded our highest League position, but we recognise the difficulties of facing sides that have a history and an infrastructure that is vastly superior to ours – but, hopefully we will continue to ‘punch above our weight’.
We run four male adult sides, a Ladies side and we have also implemented a more structured Youth Section and we are pleased to say that we are recognised as a Charter Standard Development Club. Special mention here to Dennis Barnsley who has done so much work in respect of the Youth Section and the Charter Standard.
Last season, James French, our First Team Manager for ten years, decided to step down, to give himself more time to spend with his wife and daughters. He also played for the Club before stepping into management, but I’m not sure we have a precise start date for him – all I can say that he has been a magnificent servant of the Club and I am glad
We had spent more than forty years trying to reach the County League, but amazingly, within three years we had gained promotion 12
a thornburytownfc.co.uk tf @thornburytownfc to say that we have not lost him completely. At the same time, our then Chairman, Chris Bishop, also decided to step down to enable him to follow outside interests. Fortunately for us, Chris continues to produce our matchday programmes and his printing company – Perpetua Press - continues to sponsor one of the Cup competitions. Chris was central to the work entailed in getting the Club through all of the necessary ground improvements at Saw Mills, that enabled us to transition to Step 5 of the Pyramid System and so with both ‘Frenchy’ and ‘Bish’ stepping down, last season saw huge changes within the Club.
We welcomed a new manager - Mark Moore – who has been with the Club, man and boy, although not actually in that order! A final acknowledgement to Craig Martin – he served as First Team captain for seven years – and he is part of Mark’s management team, but still performing on the pitch and he contributes massively to the life of the Club and we are all aware of what the ‘Martin Clan’ have contributed and continue to contribute to Longlevens.

MATCH REPORTS THORNBURY TOWN 3 BENJAMIN (2), WORMWELL
CLANFIELD (85) 2 GIBBENS (2) A stoppage time goal from Brandon Benjamin secured Thornbury Town’s second win in the Hellenic League but visitors Clanfield made it very hard work for Thorns and will rue a number of missed chances that would have secured at least a point for their efforts.
the Clanfield goal wasn’t seriously troubled, Thorns had a couple of what looked good shouts for a penalty turned down by the officials.
The visitors took the lead in the 2nd minute when Josh Gibbens rose above the Thorns defence to head home Oliver’s corner. This shock stung Thorns into action and Marcus Wormwell’s effort 5 minutes later was desperately cleared for a corner by Robinson. However a break by Tom Webb down the left after 12 minutes brought Town an equaliser. His cross found Matt Davis who set up Brandon Benjamin to steer the ball into the corner of the net.
Thorns started the second half a little more brightly with Wormwell being denied by a desperate challenge from Knapton and Nathan Sage’s shot from the edge of the area just too high. Clanfield were still a threat on the break and Mark Viner did well to head clear a dangerous looking corner. However the visitors retook the lead they probably deserved when Gibbens scored his second, heading home a freekick. Moments later Fullerton could have put the game beyond Thorns but Kurtis Parkin again saved well at his feet.
The goal didn’t settle Town and Clanfield always looked dangerous on the break with keeper Kurtis Parkin saving well from Fullerton and Gibbens to keep the score level. The visitors should have taken the lead again after 25 minutes when Nathan Kimber put Fullerton clear, but with just Parkin to beat he blasted the ball over the bar. This let off seemed to raise Town’s game and they enjoyed the majority of possession in the last 15 minutes of the half and whilst Zoldan in
The introduction of Harry Brock 20 minutes from time changed Towns fortunes and minutes after his introduction he latched on to a superb through ball from Toby Bennett, outpaced his marker and crossed for Marcus Wormwell to net at the far post. Moments later Zoldan saved bravely at Brock’s feet. Town stepped up the pressure and Luke Franklin’s shot was pushed away for a corner and then had a shot deflected after Harry Brock’s shot had been blocked by Zoldan. 22
a thornburytownfc.co.uk tf @thornburytownfc However in the 2nd minute of stoppage time Harry Brock was again put clear and although Zoldan saved at the youngster’s feet the ball broke free and Brandon Benjamin was quickest to react, firing home with the keeper stranded.
Despite the referee adding another 5 minutes on to the game neither goal was seriously threatened although Clanfield did press hard to try to rescue a point.

Thornbury are a decent side and not too many teams will leave Mundy Fields with all three points this season and it has to be said that both on and off the pitch, the Bristol based club are a big asset and a more than welcome addition to the Hellenic League. Clanfield (85)

TYTHERINGTON ROCKS 1 THORNBURY TOWN 5 DAVIS (3) It’s three years since Tytherington Rocks and Thornbury Town last met but Wednesday evening’s encounter had exactly the same outcome with Thorns enjoying a comfortable win.
Matt Davis headed home a Jim Brock free kick in the 2nd minute. However this wasn’t to be the start of an avalanche of goals and Rocks response was almost immediate when, 4 minutes later, Joe Mills latched on to Nathan Sage’s underhit back pass to equalise, his shot on the run giving Kurtis Parkin no chance.
Town manager Andy Davies was able to give valuable game time to his squad and they got off to the perfect start when man of the match

Whilst Thorns enjoyed the majority of possession, the home side worked hard to close down and often looked dangerous on the break. Matt Davis almost got his and Town’s second in the 10th minute but his cross cum shot was punched clear from under the bar by Rocks keeper Kieran Powell, the first of many fine saves. Mills speed up front was a threat and he set up Porter whose shot was comfortably saved by Parkin.
The second period was slow to get started with neither side able to create any clear chances but with 20 minutes gone, Craig Lancastle, making his first appearance of the season, carved out some space for himself and his shot from the edge of the area beat Powell but cannoned back off the bar. However, with 15 minutes remaining Town sealed the victory when Matt Davis latched on to a through ball, outpaced his marker and slotted the ball past the keeper for his hat trick.
Moments later it was Powell back in action pulling off a full length save from Luke Franklin. However Town went back in front on 27 minutes when Harry Brock’s run left defenders in his wake and he set up Matt Davis to fire home. Asher Budd almost extended the lead on the half hour mark but his header hit the bar with Powell beaten. However the home keeper then pulled off great saves from a Pete Fowler header and another shot from Franklin, before Fowler steered the ball home after a corner a couple of minutes before the break. The keeper then saved again on the stroke of half time, this time from Budd’s header.
Thorns extended the lead 10 minutes later when Tom Webb burst down the left , laid the ball off to Harry Brock who set up brother Jim to fire home from the edge of the area. Substitute Scott McLoud had an opportunity moments later but drove his shot wide when well placed and then Matt Davis almost scored his fourth when he waltzed past the keeper and as he was about to net, appeared to be brought down from behind but the referee awarded a corner rather than a penalty. All in all a good night’s work for Town against an improving Rocks side who worked hard right to the end.

UHLSPORT HELLENIC LEAGUE LATEST ROUND-UP Buildbase FA Vase Clanfield 85 FC 2 Buckingham Athletic 5 Clanfield crashed out of the Buildbase FA Vase in perfect early Autumn playing conditions at Radcot Road on Saturday. After a disastrous opening five minutes the hosts found themselves two down and a mountain to climb against a strong and physical Buckingham side.
Harrison Reeves scored the all important goal to take Brimscombe and Thrupp into the next round. After a good result in the week, Easington started the game well and for the first 30 minutes they were the better side. Josh Rose scored in the 8th minute to settle the home side down. Andrew Stidder was played in down the right hand side by Tom Smith but was brought down. From the resultant free kick, Callum Convey curled a delightful low ball around the defenders and Rose was the quickest to get across his man to redirect the ball back across the goal and into the empty net (see picture). Easington had the chance to double their lead after 20 minutes. George Coombes managed to get across his man to hook a right foot volley across the keeper but Gale pulled off a fine save to tip the goalbound shot round the post.
The hosts missing the influential Jozef Fullerton and Connor Tinsley through injury, the later could be out for six weeks, were left in the starting blocks as early as ninety seconds as the visitors raced into the lead when Jordan Appleton scored from close range, just three minutes later Buckingham doubled their lead through the same player, Clanfield were left in rage after they felt the ball had gone out of play from the cross that lead to the headed goal, however assistant referee Gary Collier had other ideas and Robins keeper Jamie Zolden was booked for his remonstration at the goal being allowed. To their credit the home side set off in pursuit of a way back into the contest and were rewarded on thirty-five minutes when striker Michael Duerden received the ball on the edge of the box and curled a delightful effort high and wide of visiting goalkeeper Jack Taylor.
Sports were unlikely to keep the visitors quiet for the whole game and the Hellenic Premier side finished the half strongly. Harrison Reeves was a lively outlet down the left hand side and he became more influential as Brimscombe began to control the midfield. Easington showed good organisation at the back and were able to keep things to shots from distance. Unfortunately on the stroke of half time, Brimscombe finally drew level. They were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and Jack Smith connected with another quality ball in to head into the top corner of the net giving Rimmer no chance. There was no time for Sports to reply with the referee blowing up for half time as soon as the kick off was taken.
The second half began in similar vein and Clanfield had three efforts on goal with Taylor keeping his side ahead with decent saves. On sixty-five minutes Buckingham restored their two-goal advantage though Drew Mitten but again Clanfield responded in positive fashion when centre back Josh Gibbens lashed home from inside the six-yard box following a corner. However, the tie was finally put to bed when the visitors added two further goals late on through a second effort from Mitten and in the final minute, Ashley Farmer to seal the tie and end Clanfield’s Vase run for another season.
Sports started the second half in positive fashion. There seemed to be better movement and more desire to press the opponents and this allowed Easington to be on the front foot and posing more of a threat. Sports continued to attack well down the right hand side and Tom Smith and Andrew Stidder worked the ball into wide areas with better quality but could not get a clear chance to cross into the box. In truth the whole game was a tight affair and neither keeper was really tested in the second half. Then the curse of the FA Cup seemed to
Easington Sports 1 Brimscombe & Thrupp 2 With the game heading for extra time, Sports conceded in the 92nd minute of the match which meant they were knocked out of the FA Vase. This is the second time this season after suffering a similar fate in the FA Cup. An early goal from Josh Rose was not enough as 28

strike and with the last real attack of the game Brimscombe took the lead. Harrison Reeves was played in down the left hand side and he showed good pace to get onto the pass and then slotted the ball under Rimmer as he rushed out to narrow the angle. 1-2 final score.
POS
Holyport 2 Fleet Spurs 1 This was a match that both sides would have fancied their chances, both step 6 clubs, and both doing in well in their respective Cup competitions this season. It was a almost the perfect start for Holyport as during the opening minutes Holyport were getting in behind Fleet for fun but on each occasion the ball just seemed to evade Ports final touch. After this Fleet started to grow into the game, Quelch tipped over an in swinging corner but no real chances were being created at this point by either side. As the game flowed end to end on 35 minutes Charlie Evans was dismissed for a dangerous tackle, the frustrating thing is was that he was actually pulling out of the tackle for the bouncing ball when he caught the player. The resulting free kick from Fleet put over. Going down to 10 men seemed to make the game easier for Port, seating back and hitting Fleet on the counter attack. A goal came immediately as Fabian Driffill ghosted past three Fleet players and whilst surrounded by Fleet players he cooly passed the ball into the bottom right hand corner to give Port a 1-0 lead. Almost straight away Port should have made it two, Deverall latched onto a ball over the top and toe poking it past the keeper the keeper managed to get the faintest of touches to see it go wide.

Fleet Spurs came out after the break with renewed enthusiasm, but this was dampened within two minutes when a dreadful mix-up in the area left Driffill in yards of space ten yards from goal and he passed the ball into the empty net to double the Port's lead. Alan Akerman would also see a curling effort go inches wide with the Fleet keeper beaten. Drake would also see two efforts go agonisingly wide in the closing stages.

Fleet huffed and puffed with numerous efforts from the edge of the box but Quelch was hardly called into action. In the 90th minute Spurs almost reduced the deficit Mudonhi scored, with a turn and volley which seemed to take an age to hit the back of the net.
