Aviary I first introduced the aviary series in the early 2000’s. The designs were based on traditional Chinese papercut designs. I love birds, and I felt these images looked contemporary and were graphic enough to fit in with the mid-century modern aesthetic of design at that time. They provided a bit of a decorative foil to all of the hard edged geometrics that were out there, and part of my own collection as well.

The designs were quite successful and were used in various formats on a plethora of other product categories.

As they say, time marches on and change is inevitable. I decided to phase them out of the melamine collection as I felt the original color palette was looking a bit dated and I was moving in another design direction.

To celebrate the almost 20 year anniversary of my company, I have decided to reissue the collection, albeit with a few twists. The dinner plate set consists of the four original designs, but in a new color palette. All of the other pieces are revised or new designs and I have added new shapes that Aviary was not available in originally.

After 20 years, we can all use a little freshening up!
