The newly constructed building will feature Restaurant Space for lease that will be approximately 2,000 square feet and Retail Space for lease - approximately 1,250 square feet on the ground floor, and office space on the second floor. The second floor will be converted into apartments in the future after the sewers are in.

This is the first major development happening on the Main Street in recent times. The developer and the residents of the Village are excited about the project that will help drive new Restaurant and Retail businesses into Westhampton Beach Village.

The Restaurant Space will feature open floor plans, large glass bi-folding doors and a vast landscaped back outdoor space to entertain guests. The Retail Space will also feature floor to ceiling glass doors making the store front even more appealing for the business.

American Civil War Living History Event

On August 4th, the Westhampton Beach Historical Society will host a free Civil War Living History Event on the Great Lawn in Westhampton Beach. The event will demonstrate Union and Confederate camp life, infantry and cavalry drills, artillery demonstrations, and culminate with an infantry and cavalry skirmish at the end of the afternoon.

Lillian’s Hair Salon Celebrates 25 Years in Westhampton Beach

Michael Paraskevas

Michael Paraskevas has been an illustrator since graduating from The School of Visual Arts in 1984. He then went on to receive his MFA from SVA in 1986.

He’s worked for most major magazines including Sports Illustrated, Time, Town & Country, New York Magazine and Rolling Stone, to name but a few.

Lillian Schon got her start at a young age, working after school and weekends in her older sister’s beauty salon, where she fell in love with the beauty industry.

Michael Paraskevas has also illustrated and written 24 children’s books over the years with his mother, Betty. The two went on to create and write the animated television series Maggie and the Ferocious Beast for Nickelodeon.

Two of their other books were also made into animated series: Marvin the Tap Dancing Horse for PBS and Kids from Room 402 for Fox Family. Betty passed away in 2010 and Mickey continues to work on animated projects for a variety of companies.

Lillian trained with the industry’s best: Sebastian International, Clairol Institute, Redken Labs, Wella International, Goldwell, Paul Mitchell, and L’Oréal.

His large scale beach paintings have sold all over the world through his gallery in the Hamptons.

In 1993, Lillian decided it was time to open her own hair salon. She took the risk and began her entrepreneurial venture.

Michael Paraskevas works in acrylic, oil, watercolor or whatever the mood suits him at the moment. He also works digitally since the demands of the current illustration market requires quickness and the ability to change things at the last minute.

Michael is always working on something. He is currently writing and drawing a weekly comic, The Green Monkeys for Dan’s Papers. He is also writing and drawing Lili and Derek with his wife Maria.

Michael Paraskevas likes to draw and doodle on his iPad having fought getting one for ages.

He keeps a wide variety of sketchbooks about all the events he likes to go to.

Michael and his wife live in Southampton.

The talented artists on Lillian’s team keep up with education and cutting-edge trends, and use their endless creativity to service clients. Every haircut, color, highlights, smoothing treatment, bridal styling, formal updo, and makeup application represents their passion to elevate all clients’ looks. They work with women, men, and children. They also style wigs.

The Greater Westhampton communities are famous for their Atlantic Ocean white sugar sand beaches on the barrier island known as Dune Road. Which community you live in determines which beaches you can actually access. The Villages of Westhampton Beach, Quogue and West Hampton Dunes each have their own municipal beaches for their village residents while the surrounding hamlets and have fewer free options available to them.

In addition to these municipal beaches, there are ample private beach clubs and hotel related accommodations that will offer great beach experiences in the Greater Westhampton communities.

VILLAGE OF WESTHAMPTON BEACH ROGERS BEACH Full-service Main Village Beach Pavilion just south of the Beach Lane Bridge is complete with public restrooms, snack bar concession, changing rooms with lockers as well as both indoor and outdoor showers. Lifeguards are on duty during summer season.

LASHLEY BEACH @ JETTY 4 Limited-service Village Beach Pavilion with public restrooms and outdoor showers. This is a preferred local surf spot with a more relaxed atmosphere also with lifeguards on duty during the summer season.

Both of these Village of Westhampton Beach locations maintain parking lots and are accessible by permit for Village residents at no cost. Non-resident beach stickers may be obtained at the Municipal Building on Fridays between the hours of 4-7pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. The Village extends beach privileges as a courtesy to taxpayers and year-round residents residing in the hamlets of Westhampton, Quiogue, Remsenburg and Speonk for a fee. Summer renters inside the Incorporated Village’s boundaries may obtain beach privileges for a fee.

VILLAGE OF WEST HAMPTON DUNES The beaches of the Village of West Hampton Dunes have had the honor of being designated as one of the top best restored beach in the United States following years of both short-term and long-term re-nourishment. Access to the Atlantic Ocean beach for Village residents and leaseholders ONLY is via a series of boardwalks over the dunes throughout the village.

Lifeguards are not provided and at no time is random parking permitted on Dune Road for public beach access.

PIKE’S BEACH This Town of Southampton limited service beach located in the Village of West Hampton Dunes is operational for residents and leaseholders within the Town of Southampton as well as non-residents. It was opened in the late 1990s after having been closed for more than 10 years. This 400 foot beach offers lifeguard supervised swimming, sunbathing, and bathroom facilities. Lifeguard on duty between 10 am and 5 pm. Parking Fee: Charged 10 am to 5 pm. A permit is required 7 days a week from June 1st through September 15. Seasonal Beach Fees for Southampton Town Residents $30 / Vehicle, Senior Residents $20 / Vehicle, Non-Resident $225 / Vehicle and NON-RESIDENT DAILY PASSES $20 / per day.

For access information to Pike’s Beach in West Hampton Dunes as well as Ponquogue Beach and Tiani Beach further west in the communities of East Quogue and Hampton Bays, contact the Town of Southampton Department of Parks and recreation at 631-728-8585 CUPSOGUE BEACH This 296 acre Suffolk County barrier beach park offers lifeguard-supervised swimming, sunbathing on white sand beaches and some of the finest saltwater bass fishing to be had on Long Island. Campers and recreational vehicles are permitted along the access road running parallel to the outer beach. Diving is permitted at slack tide on the bay side of the park only. When every second counts, we’re right where you need us Patricia Johnson’s Thanksgiving preparations were interrupted by what she describes as “a sledgehammer to my chest.”

The ambulance took her to the new Kanas Regional Heart Center at Peconic Bay Medical Center.

An emergency catheterization procedure revealed that Patricia’s coronary artery was 98 percent blocked.

She was in the midst of a STEMI—often considered the most dangerous kind of heart attack.

“If their cath lab hadn’t been so close, I might not have made it.”

Within minutes, the cardiologists inserted a stent to open the blocked artery. Two days later, she was home again in time for Thanksgiving with her family.

There is always something happening at Westhampton Free Library. Adults can learn about everything from history to travel at our Delicious Discussions, participate in our writers’ groups or join cooking, book and game clubs. This summer, we are hosting spa days at the beach, two fabulous bus trips and Monday Night Movies on the Great Lawn. Our health and exercise classes (some at the beach) include Senior Total Fitness, Senior Tai Chi, Zumba, Zumba Gold, Yoga, Pilates and Meditation.

Programming for children and families includes story time, reading clubs, music and movement classes for toddlers, cooking classes, craft workshops and much more. You can also visit the Tween Scene, an alcove that’s reserved just for kids ages 1012. In our Teen space, young adults can read, play video games, watch movies and visit with friends. The Library has something to offer everyone at any age.

Our collection is diversified. Throughout the Library, you will find DVDs, music, CDs, digital audio and video players, video games, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels and, of course, lots of books. Our patrons also have access to an extensive collection of eBooks and audiobooks that can be downloaded onto smartphones, laptops and tablet computers. If you are having trouble figuring out how to use your personal electronic device, then visit our Library Geeks at our Inspiration Bar – the hours are available in the Library newsletter. Continue your education through Universal Class, which offers over 500 online classes all from the comfort of your own computer and on your own time schedule.

The Westhampton Free Library has been the community’s educational hub since it opened its doors in March of 1897 with a charter granted by the State of New York and signed by Melvil Dewey, creator of the Dewey Decimal System. In 1951, our original Library Avenue building was opened and served the community for more than 100 years, providing generations of families with books, music and programming.

In June 2010, our new state of the art Library opened its doors to the residents of Westhampton, Westhampton Beach, Quogue, East Moriches, East Quogue, Eastport, Remsenburg and Speonk. Our Library is beautiful and environmentally responsible. The building features efficient lighting, occupancy sensors, high-efficiency heating and air conditioning units, plumbing that reduces water usage by 45% and solar panels that generate 8% of our energy.

The Westhampton Free Library is a special place where families can come together to learn, read or just have fun. This summer, we will offer hundreds of programs.

Westhampton Free Library Summer Reading Club On Your Mark, Get Set… Read!

For ages birth to 12 years Begin logging your books on Sunday, June 24, and the final day to register or enter time/books is Friday, Aug. 10. Register by following the link on our Library website at: westhamptonlibrary.net or visiting the Idea Place. For every five picture books you read to your child, he or she will receive a wooden nickel to be traded for prizes, large or small, from our prize display!

Country music decoupage journals: Wednesday, July 18 from 4:00-5:00pm. Decorate a composition notebook with country music lyrics.

Disco tea lights: Tuesday, July 24 from 4:00-5:00pm. Create a tealight candle holder that will refract and reflect light like a groovy disco ball.

Sheet music zendoodles: Tuesday, August 14 from 3:30-4:30pm.

Relax and color creating works of art out of classic sheet music.

Upcycled CD mandalas: Thursday, August 16 from 2:003:00pm. Paint a geometric, patterned mandala design onto a recycled CD.

Teen Teen Reading Challenge

Take the Teen’s Summer Reading challenge by registering on June 25 and reading as much as you can until Aug. 31. We will have weekly, as well as monthly raffles. For every 100 pages that you read, you will earn a raffle ticket.
