A MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE To Finish The Year

2

027 is knocking on the door. So why not gather your mates, head for the mountains and welcome the New Year with a challenge, a few laughs and a view worth climbing for? On 31 December, Falls Creek’s Village Bowl will come alive as participants and their supporters gather for the Aussie Alpine Backyarder. At 5 pm, the first loop begins: a 6.71 km journey through snow gums and open alpine terrain, with sweeping mountain views and a climb that makes the return to cheering friends all the sweeter. Hosted by Falls Creek locals Nik Nok and

There are four ways to join the adventure: One Lap Wonder: Experience the course with one mountain loop. Mountain Explorer: Take on four loops and catch the final sunset of 2026. Midnight Master: Complete eight loops and run into the New Year. Last One Standing: Keep completing a loop every hour until only one participant remains. Whether your goal is one lap or a whole night on the trails, the camaraderie is part of the reward. Familiar faces become friends, supporters cheer for everyone, and each finish brings its own sense of accomplishment. Already have New Year’s Eve plans? There’s another chance to experience this mountain community at the Alpine Training Camp, 13–15 November.

Zac from FOMO Trails, the event brings people together through a shared challenge. Each hour, participants head out again, returning to the village to refuel, catch their breath and share a yarn before the next start.

The weekend begins with a Friday afternoon social run and meet and greet, before an early start on Saturday for an eight-hour backyard ultra simulation. Headlamps switch on at 4:30am, with the first loops offering a chance to practise moving through the dark before sunrise rewards the early risers. Each hour brings another opportunity to tackle the 6.71 km Backyarder course. Join in for as many hours as you choose.

Miss the hour or need a longer rest? Take a breather and jump back in on a later loop. It’s a chance to practise alpine running techniques, try different pacing and fuelling strategies, test your gear and make fast friends along the way. Afterwards, a mountain-style recovery session and group dinner provide time to unwind and swap stories. Sunday rounds out the weekend with a relaxed recovery run, with different distances to suit a range of abilities, followed by coffee before heading home. Whether you join the camp, the New Year’s Eve challenge or both, expect a warm welcome and a chance to discover what you can achieve in our mountain backyard. •

REMEMBRANCE DAY forgotten by future generations. Mount Beauty RSL Sub-Branch encourages residents of all ages to attend and stand together in a shared moment of respect and remembrance. Whether you have a personal connection to military service or simply wish to show your support, your presence is valued. We hope to see the Mount Beauty and surrounding communities come together on 11 November to honour those who have served and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. For further information, please contact Mount Beauty RSL Sub-Branch at mtbeautyrsl@gmail.com or follow us on Facebook @Mount Beauty RSL SubBranch. • Remembering those that served, students from the local schools laying a wreath. Come Together November 11th

M

ount Beauty RSL Sub-Branch invites the local community to come together on Wednesday, 11 November, to commemorate Remembrance Day and honour the men and women who have served, sacrificed and lost their lives in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. The local ceremony will be held at the Cenotaph on the Mount Beauty Hospital grounds, with the service commencing at 10:45 am sharp. All members of the community are warmly encouraged to attend as we pause together to reflect on the cost of war and recognise the courage, dedication and service of our Australian Defence personnel. Remembrance Day holds deep significance for Veterans, serving personnel, their

families and communities across Australia. It is a time to remember those who never returned home, those who were wounded or carried the lasting impacts of service, and the families and loved ones whose lives have been forever changed by conflict. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the beginning of Australian service in Afghanistan, providing an opportunity to reflect on the experiences and contributions of those who served during this period, alongside the many Australians who have served in conflicts and peace operations throughout our nation's history. While Remembrance Day is a time for reflection and solemn remembrance, it is also an opportunity to come together as a community. By attending the ceremony, we demonstrate our gratitude, strengthen our connections and ensure that the stories and sacrifices of those who served are not

A

fter the difficult decision to cancel our October market due to the grim weather forecast, the Mount Beauty Market team is looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Hydro Park for their November market. While they were incredibly disappointed to have to cancel October’s much-anticipated event, they’re thrilled that the majority of our stallholders are returning in November, ready to bring the market to life once again. With more than 50 stalls to browse, there’ll be plenty to discover, whether you’re searching for a unique handmade gift, fresh produce, beautiful plants, jewellery, clothing, homewares or something delicious to take home. Their wonderful mix of local makers, growers, creatives and small businesses will be joined by delicious food, coffee and live music, creating the perfect excuse to get out, catch up with friends and enjoy a morning in the community.

The market has continued to grow over recent months, and the support from stallholders, locals and visitors has been fantastic. The volunteer committee is excited to bring everyone together again and make the November market another great day for Mount Beauty.
