GRAVITY ENDURO TOUR A Huge Weekend!

T

he Team Mount Beauty Gravity Enduro will be held on the iconic single track of the Big Hill MTB park. Our steep, fast hand cut singletrack is unlike anything else in the North East.

We encourage you to come along and race on the trails that have produced many champions!

as per AusCycling recommendations and will not include the 5th stage. Riders must be 13 years or older on 3rd March 2023 to enter.

Location: Big Hill Mountain Bike Park, Mount Beauty.

Registration open 8am-4pm

Event Details: We will again be running an e-MTB category for both male and female riders.

Official practice 9am-4pm

Age categories will be taken from your age on 31st December 2024 in line with the rest of the VET series.

The U15 category will also be shortened to four stages to reduce the overall race time

After the Falls Creek round of the Gravity Enduro, this weekend will see some great action around Big Hill during the Mount Beauty round. Pic – Matt Rousu

Shuttles 9am-4pm (2 shuttle rides for U15 categories, 3 shuttles for other categories. It’s an Enduro so you’ll have to pedal if you want to get a 2nd look at things.)

Last shuttle uplift will leave the bottom at 3:30pm

Sunday 11/02/2024 Registration opens 7am Compulsory race briefing 8am. All riders must attend the race briefing and pass through the start timing check at their race categories allocated start time. Category start times and stage orders TBC. Official race time from 8:15am-2pm.

PDA Physie is a fusion of fundamental physie and the art of dance.

Physie includes elements of Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Pilates and Modern Dance. For beginners wanting to join, no experience is necessary at all. Physie is also a great option for those wanting to return to dance for recreation.

Physie is a sport for all ages and abilities, from Tiny Tots through to Ladies in their 80's who are still enjoying the fun and friendship that attending classes brings.

Whilst Physie has always been predominently a girls sport more boys are starting to join and enjoy physie classes along with their sisters, mothers and friends with APDA encouraging an all inclusive environment.

Throughout the year, members all over Australia learn 4-6 choreographed routines.

Each routine has its specific skill set and focuses on movement, musicality, technique, performance, flexibility, cardio and strength – all in one class! Catering to

All members have the opportunity to attend Interclub, Zone and National Competitions but these are not compulsory at all and we give all students the choice as to whether they wish to compete or not most are excited to compete by the end of the year as they have built up confidence and are excited to show off their improvement and hard work.

FANTASTIC FEBRUARY @ FALLS CREEK So Much to Enjoy

T

here was a time that February was something of a quiet month on the high plains. Not any more! Back in January we witnessed the Mile High Dragon Boats that involved a crowd of around five or six hundred participants and spectators around Rocky Valley lake, plus 220 mountain bikers in the Falls Creek round (over two days) of the Victorian Enduro Tour, you would be forgiven for thinking summer was over. But no – let’s have a look at what is coming up.

Fly Fishing Australia Competition – Victoria Round 3 10th and 11th Feb 2024

The 2024 Victorian Fly Fishing Competition Round 3 will be held at Falls Creek Alpine Resort on the Rocky Valley Dam on February 2024. Visit the website for more information.

Helen was able to provide support for her local community and those further afield.

ree time following Helen McDougall’s retirement has resulted in wonderful gains for the Kiewa Valley community. Taking an active role in the Red Cross, Upper Kiewa Valley Support Services and various community advisory, advocacy and action groups, along with volunteering at Alpine FM radio and the Uniting Church Op Shop in Mount Beauty, Helen has certainly been keeping busy!

Locally, the Before School Breakfast Program at the Mount Beauty Primary School was initiated by Helen, and she had an active role in the ‘Pillowcase Project’, a resilience and emergency preparedness activity for students in grades 3 to 6, and has assisted with various community relief and resilience activities including on-theground support in emergency relief centres during fires and floods. On a national and international level, Helen has participated in many fundraising and general support activities including the Ukrainian Crisis Appeal, and the Queensland and NSW Flood Fundraising Appeals.

Helen is held in high esteem by her colleagues and is widely regarded for her warmth, compassion and generosity. The primary focus for Helen’s volunteerism is to help vulnerable people or those in need of immediate assistance, and starting with the Tawonga branch of the Red Cross in 2013,

Shortly after joining Alpine FM as a volunteer in 2014, Helen began her on-air career by becoming a presenter for RPH, radio for those with a print disability, reading from local and state newspapers. In 2018, Helen began presenting the ‘Sharing and Caring’ program with co-host Traudy Homolka. The program is produced for residents and staff at Mount Beauty’s residential aged care facility, Kiewa Valley House. The focus is on bringing music to the residents that, wherever possible, they have chosen themselves. This involves

LOCAL ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR Helen visiting Kiewa Valley House regularly to meet with the residents and ask for requests. After Traudy’s passing in 2019, Helen has continued to present the program.

Helen also presents the ‘Sunday Morning Mix’ and has been co-host of the ‘Saturday Spotlight’ with Caitlin Frawley. Helen presents 6 to 8 hours of programming each week and often fills in for other presenters. In addition, Helen has taken on the role of Volunteer Wellbeing Coordinator as well as Membership Secretary duties at Alpine FM. She is noted for her outstanding contribution to station culture and wellbeing, as well as her professionalism.

Community Recovery

n Wednesday 14 February, 4.30 – 6.30 pm, Artist Vic McEwan is extending a special invitation to community members to preview an exhibition that will also be opened for Feastival Friday 16 – Sunday 18 February.

Helen’s willingness to help out her community is also shown by her commitment to the Mount Beauty Uniting Church Op Shop as an ‘evening angel’.

Each Sunday evening, Helen collects all the donations made to the op shop and takes them home to sort in her own time, keeping aside what can be sold at the shop and arranging for the remaining items to be disposed of. MISSING BOOK A hard-bound copy of Dr Ruth Lawrence’s Thesis titled ‘The Interaction between Land Use, the Environment and the Hydrology of the Bogong High Plains between 1850 and 1985’ was given to this community in the care of the late Bill Sutton. It has been loaned out – and not returned. This is a vital piece of the history of this area and it would be fabulous to have it returned.

- Saturday 24th February. Horse racing has been held at Dederang since 1865, and each year’s event is keenly anticipated.

And yet, the day isn’t just about a great program of racing, there are many other activities that all add up to the greater enjoyment of the day for everyone.
