Michelin unveiled the selection for the very first MICHELIN Guide Taipei, which selects a total of 110 total establishments, spanning 33 cuisine types, including 20 restaurants awarded one or more stars. Michael Ellis, International Director of the MICHELIN guides, comments: “Taipei is a city that has incredibly rich gastronomic history and the variety of cuisines available is amazing. Taipei has also given birth to a truly dynamic and innovative dining scene - much to the delight of a local clientele that is ever more curious to discover new flavours and different experiences.” Our highest award is given for the superlative cooking of chefs at the peak of their profession. The ingredients are exemplary, the cooking is elevated to an art form and their dishes are often destined to become classics.

Mayur Srivastava, chef and owner of a chain of Indian restaurants in Taipei, has been introducing the incredible range and diversity of Indian cuisine to Taipei over the last six years. His latest venture, an all vegetarian and vegan South Indian restaurant will be opening by April 2018.

Mayur feels there is a definite move away from meat consumption as a way to healthier living, and the environmental benefits of this are a plus amongst today’s millennials. As a vegetarian or a vegan, a balanced diet is essential and Indian cuisine has by far the best variety.

First all vegetarian and vegan Indian restaurant opens in Taipei The foods of India are so diverse in their ingredients, spices, flavouring and presentation, that each state’s cuisine is uniquely different. South Indian cooking is based around rice, lentils, and stews. Popular dishes from the South are dosa (lentil and rice pancake), idli (steamed rice cakes), rasam (tomato soup), and sambhar (lentil stew). Common ingredients include tamarind and curry leaves for flavour. MIK3 will serve Sona Mahsuri rice and ponni rice which are traditionally used in south indian cuisine. Food will be served on banana leaves in the traditional style. Food served on banana leaves absorbs the polyphenols (also found in green tea) so you get the benefit of the nutrition. It also has antibacterial properties and is an ecofriendly option. Before use, they are simply rinsed in water making them more hygenic and chemical free. The restaurant will be featuring cuisine from a few of the southern states of India: Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana and Goa. MIK3

President of Taiwan Baoan Temple meets with the Pope

Liao Wuzhi, President of the Bao’An Gong Taoist temple from Taipei, Taiwan, met with Pope Francis Xavier on March 14th to exchange oil paintings and commemorative coins, making it the first time a Taoist delegation from Taiwan has met with the Pope. Liao Wuzhi stated that "compassionately loving the world" as taught by Baosheng Dadi, the lord of the Bao’An Temple, is the same as "love others as you love yourself" from the teachings of Jesus Christ. This visit is to fulfill the promises that have been signed before and propose a plan to achieve the goal of promoting world peace and helping the disadvantaged.

Liao Wuzhi said that this meeting is a significant milestone in the relationship between the Taoist delegation and the Vatican. He sincerely hoped that the two countries will maintain ties with each other and invited Pope Francis to visit Taiwan. Liao Wuzhi pointed out that another mission of the Bao’An Temple will discuss the cooperation plan with the Holy See’s Religious Conversation Committee. R.O.C. Ambassador to the Vatican, Li Shiming, also met with the Holy See’s Religious Conversation Committee, and the Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Bishop Miguel Ayuso.

Message by UNWTO Secretary General on the occasion of International Women´s Day Time is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives Tourism can be a leading promulgator of gender equality as it offers a wide range of jobs for women, particularly in developing regions and rural areas where women still face major hardships. Indeed, there are many destinations around the world that rely upon the commitment and motivation of women working at all levels of the tourism supply chain. Yet the reality is that today women still often suffer from stereotyping and discrimination within the global tourism workforce. As we observe this year ’s International Women’s Day, it is time for the tourism sector to strengthen legal protection for women, ensure women’s equal pay and access to entrepreneurship resources, and promote women’s leadership in the tourism sector and participation in formal education. As one of the sectors with the highest s h a re o f wo m e n b o t h e m p l o ye d a n d as entrepreneurs, if gender equality is integrated into tourism planning and business development, we all gain. Greater gender equality impacts positively on the profitability, sustainability and overall competitiveness of the tourism sector.

To u r i s m c a n p r o m o t e w o m e n ’s empowerment through formal employment, which also impacts at the household and community level – contributing to the 17 universal Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5, ‘Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls’, and other SDGs calling for inclusion and equal rights for all (Goals 1, 8, 10 and 11). This International Women’s Day, I call upon the global tourism community to maximize every opportunity to raise awareness of gender inequality in tourism, and to help mainstream gender issues in tourism policies and strategies. If we all work together we can realize the equal and inclusive future that we want and help to solve the world’s greatest human rights challenge: achieving true gender equality, social and economic parity between the sexes, and empowering the women that bring success not just to travel and tourism, but to world development as a whole. Not only are disposable products wasteful and expensive, there are health issues too, caused by the plastic encapsulated inside. So, reusables are a better choice for the planet and are safer, but for these women in particular, it gives them control over their lives.

Pattaya, about 100 km South of Bangkok, has a reputation for being a party town. A lot of young girls are lured there by the promise of ‘easy’ money working in the bars. Unwanted pregnancies, rape, drug addiction, violence greets many of these women and once the cycle begins it is difficult to escape.

Offering Some Hope Vanessa Lawless works with a local charity, ‘Hand to Hand’, to provide support for those living in the slums. “After living in Thailand, where waste management systems are not great, it became clear how much single-use rubbish gets consumed and ultimately ending up in landfill or the ocean. I wanted to start a project that could help women and girls in the slums of Thailand, while also making a positive environmental impact.” Vanessa knew about the feminine hygiene issues her girls faced. They couldn’t afford tampons or sanitary pads, often using scraps of clothing or old newspapers, and serious health issues develop. 24

The Impact It is difficult to describe the impact a resource like this has had for these girls. For many, the choices they faced during their periods were stark. Sanitation is something that people in developed countries take for granted. Unfortunately, for too many people this is not their reality.

What Next? Vanessa continues to work in Thailand and so far has raised enough money to provide 97 girls with their own kits, free of charge. They are working hard every day to get more kits but there are thousands of girls around the world that need more help. 泰國生活 Pattaya距泰國首都南方100公里，而此城鎮常被人視為派對聖地，許多年輕女性會在當地的酒吧打點零工轉點「小錢」，而也因此為數不少的懷孕、強暴、藥物濫用、暴力等問題接踵而至。這些社會問題一旦形成，便會循環不止，想要脫離相當困難。

給予希望 Vanessa Lawless 在當地的一個慈善組織「Hand to Hand」工作，提供居住於貧民窟的人民支持與協助。「泰國的浪費管理制度也不是很好，自從居住在這裡之後，也越來越清楚了解有多少一次性使用的器具被消耗後丟棄，最終被倒入垃圾處理場甚至海洋。我想開始一個能幫助泰國貧民窟女性的計畫，並同時以此帶給環境

重複使用 vs. 丟棄式你知道在美國，平均每個女性一生用掉 16,000個衛生用品嗎？丟棄式產品不僅浪費資源又價格昂貴，它也會因為產品內的塑膠製品產生不少健康問題。因此，重複使用的用品還是一個對地球較好也較平安的選擇，特別對於這些女性大眾，幾乎可以大大的影響他們的生活。

「女性經期用具包」「Day’s for Girls’」是一個全球性基金會，提供健康照護服務與教育及其資源給超過110個國家的婦女。每個用具包使用壽命可達三年，並且提供志工相關使用訓練以及基本環境意識教育。不像傳統的衛生棉，鮮豔的顏色遮掩了污漬。可吸收襯墊折起來像是一塊小毛巾，讓你可以晾在外面不用尷尬擔心。是一個使用壽命既長又好照顧的解決方式。

產生的影響要形容這些資源對女性的影響並不容易，對於她們來說，在生理期期間遇到的問題與選擇是非常嚴酷的。衛生在已發展國家已經不是一個問題，但對於許多人來說仍是需要面對的殘酷現實。

National Speech Contests

The National Speech Contest, held by Toastmasters International Taiwan at its Spring Conference, consists of 8 speech contests held in four different languages, namely English, Mandarin, Taiwanese and Japanese.

Winners from the 2017 Fall Conference have become YouTube stars with over one million views. You may recognize names like Tang Hua-xuan (speech: Am I Strange?) and Samantha Tu (speech: It's Okay if You Speak Taiwanese!)!

由中華民國國際演講協會在春季大會舉辦的全國演講比賽總共會有八場比賽，分別用英語，國語，台語和日語進行。

2017秋季大會的演講冠軍們在YouTube上面各個成為了網紅, 影片觀看人數超過了百萬! 你可能有聽過唐華瑄女士的國語演講「我很奇怪嗎？」和凃淑貞女士的台語演講「你講台語嘛會A通！」

Contestants that have reached the national stage have already competed and won at club, area and division level contests throughout Taiwan. The champions from each division will converge in Taipei on April 21st and 22nd to vie for the national title of ‘District 67 Champion of Public Speaking’. 能站上全國比賽舞台的參賽者來自台灣各地。這些參賽者已經破關斬將，在會內賽，區域比賽和分部比賽榮獲冠軍。各分部的冠軍將會在4月21和22日在台北交手爭奪全國頭銜「67區演講冠軍」。 In addition to the speech contests, the Spring Conference also features a keynote speaker from Singapore, Mr. Darren Tay (2016 World Champion of Public Speaking) and workshops from the top trainers from around Taiwan and also the U.S., including Toastmasters from Taiwan, Canada, South Africa, and Japan! 除了演講比賽，春季大會也邀請到了來自新加坡的專題演講者: Darren Tay 先生。他是2016年世界演講冠軍。同時也邀請了來自台灣各地，以及美國和日本的頂尖講師來舉辦教育訓練。
