Jiufen Gold Mine Museum: Exploring Taiwan's Mining History, Heritage and Natural Beauty!

Taiwan is brimming with hidden treasures just waiting to be explored, and some are within a short drive from Taipei!
In this edition, discover the vibrant mining era of Taiwan at the Gold Mine Museum. Nestled within the picturesque Gold Ecological Park in Jinguashi, on the northeast coast of Taiwan, this museum offers a captivating journey into history and nature.
Explore exhibits showcasing mining tools, historical artifacts, and fascinating insights into the daily lives of miners who worked these mountains from 1897 to 1972.
under Japanese rule from 1896 to 1945.
During your visit, immerse yourself in nature walks amidst serene mountains, particularly enchanting during cherry blossom season when the museum's surroundings are adorned with breathtaking views of blooming cherry blossoms.
For an interactive experience, try your hand at gold panning—an exhilarating activity where you sift through sand and gravel in search of genuine gold flecks.
• Opening Hours: Weekdays 09:30 AM - 05:00 PM, Weekends and Holidays 09:30 AM - 06:00 PM.
Enhance your adventure with a guided tour of the mining tunnels, where you'll venture into the depths of history and discover the ingenious techniques and challenges faced by miners during this fascinating and prosperous era.
Entrance Fees: NT$80 (US$2.50) per person (free for certain categories such as New Taipei City residents and seniors). Separate tickets are required for gold panning NT$100 (US$3) and guided tunnel tours NT$50 (US$1.50); please check on-site for details.

After visiting the Museum, drive to the nearby Prisoners of War (POW) Memorial Site, which honors the soldiers held by the Japanese during World War II. About 1,100 POWs allied slaved in the copper mines from 1942 to 1945. Each November on Remembrance Day, representatives from allied countries gather in this solemn site to commemorate the sacrifices of POWs.
