INEC Asks Appeal Court to Upturn Judgement Nullifying Election Guidelines, Seeks Stay of Execution Alex Enumah in Abuja
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has asked the Abuja Division of the Court of
Appeal to reverse the judgement of a Federal High Court, Abuja, which nullified part of its guidelines for the conduct of the 2027 general elections. INEC also filed a motion praying
the appellate court for an order staying the execution and/or further execution of the judgement of the trial court, pending the hearing and determination of its appeal.
Justice Muhammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had last week nullified the revised time-table of the commission, which had directed political parties to submit
their membership registers and databases by May 10 as a condition for participation in the 2027 general election. The trial court’s order was made
