INEC: Elections in Nigeria Are Like War Zakari explains why inconclusive polls may be inevitable Bayelsa, Kogi elections’ll be highly monetised, says Soyebi Chuks Okocha in Abuja Independent National Electoral Commission’s national commissioner for Edo, Rivers and Bayelsa
States, May Agbumuche-Mbu, has lamented the degree of violence often associated with elections in Nigeria, saying it is akin only to a war situation. Agbamuche-Mbu, who
narrated as an example, what happened in Rivers State during the recent 2019 general election at a two-day seminar at the Electoral Institute in Abuja, however,
sued for caution ahead of the November 16 governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States. In similar spirit, another INEC national commissioner,
Amina Zakari, explained why inconclusive elections might be inevitable in certain instances, noting that where it was established that genuine voters had been disenfranchised
by any means possible, it behooves the commission to capture the votes of such demographics. Continued on page 5

Osinbajo: Fela Deserves National Recognition Adibe Emenyonu in Benin Vice President Yemi Oshinbajo, yesterday, said the late Afrobeat maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, deserved national recognition, suggesting that the National
Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, could be renamed after him. Osinbajo spoke at a town hall meeting in Benin City, the Edo State capital, when a citizen demanded that the national theatre be named after
the legendary musician. The vice president, who though said such a decision, was not within his powers, however, agreed that Fela deserved a national honour from government even after
his death, both as a Nigerian and father of modern music in the country. He said: "Well, I don't see any reason, why not? The only problem, of course, is that it is not in my place to decide
what national monument of such should be named after any individual. But I must say that I agree with you that Fela is as deserving as any to have such a preferred monument named after him".
On the need to have ‘Nigerian music dot com’ as requested by one member of the audience, he said, "truth of the matter is that if you look Continued on page 5
Miyetti Allah Bows to Benue Grazing Law, Apologises to Ortom Says herdsmen ready to live with farmers in peace Governor: Our law is in the best interest of all How Air Peace chairman, Onyeama, brokered rapprochement George Okoh in Makurdi The enactment of Anti-open grazing law in Benue State might have paid off as Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, an advocacy group promoting the welfare of Fulani pastoralists in the country, at the weekend, apologised to Governor Samuel Ortom over the various herdsmen attacks and killings in the state. Aside apologising for the killings, the group also promised the governor that its people would henceforth live in harmony with farmers in the state, saying it was an assurance they had already undertaken. Governor Ortom, who seemed relieved by the development, further clarified that the law was put in place
to serve the best interest of everyone by way of ending the senseless killings of innocent people as well as encourage the idea of ranching as the global best practice of animal husbandry. The development, however, came on the heels of a peace initiative brokered by the Chairman of Air Peace Airline, Chief Allen Onyeama, who reckoned there should be amicable solutions to the incessant killings in the state and beyond. National Secretary of the Miyetti Allah association, Engineer Saleh Alhassan, who spoke to journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, during the peace meeting at the instance of Onyeama, Continued on page 5
