Court Stops FG from Deducting $418m from States Malami: FG acting on undertaking/indemnity provided by governors Alex Enumah in Abuja A Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the federal government from executing plans to deduct $418 million from the accounts of the 36

states of the federation. Some consultants had between 2014 and 2019 obtained judgements for the payment of $418 million to them, for facilitating the Paris Club refunds to the 36 states

and all local governments in Nigeria. The governors of the 36 states thereafter accused President Muhammadu Buhari of approving the payment without considering their

call for a forensic audit of the consultants’ claims. Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the restraining order yesterday against the federal government following an ex parte application argued by the

lawyers to the 36 States - Jibrin Okutepa and Ahmed Raji. While moving the application, Okutepa, who led the legal team of the states told Justice Ekwo that the 36 states would be completely crippled
