40-day-old industrial action embarked upon by resident doctors in the country, and pleaded with them to return to work, saying the timing of the strike was wrong. Aside from asking the
health workers to return to their duty posts, the president urged others contemplating strikes to opt for settlement of issues through negotiation, “no matter how long it takes.” Buhari said: “The lives of
citizens that could be lost or damaged when doctors withdraw services, are precious enough to worth opting for peaceful resolution of differences.’’ While hailing the
intervention of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to resolve issues surrounding the strike, the President also called on the resident doctors to see reason and return to work.

FG Douses Tension over Planned Nationwide Farm Estates Says it’s neither RUGA nor ranching scheme
Deji Elumoye in Abuja The federal government moved swiftly yesterday to douse the tension created by its planned establishment of
Integrated Farm Estates in all the 109 Senatorial Districts across the country by the National Land Development Authority (NALDA), declaring that “it is not for the purpose
of implementing Rural Grazing Areas (RUGA) and ranches.” The clarification by government was sequel to the recent alarm raised by the Pan-Yoruba socio-political
organisation, Afenifere, alleging that the federal government was attempting to bring back the rejected cattle colony and RUGA through the establishment of the farm
estates. Afenifere, in a statement by its spokesman, Jare Ajayi, called for an immediate halt to the programme. Some other people rejected
the plan, claiming that the move was an indirect attempt to acquire land for a section of the country. Continued on page 5

A three-member panel of Justices of the appellate court
presided by Justice Haruna Tsammani made the order shortly after the court granted the request of the Attorney General of Lagos State to bring the state’s application seeking to be heard as an interested party in the suit.
