adoption of addresses in a libel suit by the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike against THISDAY newspapers and others. The trial judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli adjourned
the matter, after the final cross examination of witnesses for the defendants in the case registered in suit No. PHC/1505/CS/2020. Earlier, the third witness for the defendants during
cross examination by the applicant's lawyer, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) yesterday, told the court that the summary and interpretation of the report published in THISDAY of June 23, 2020, explained
that Governor Wike was inconsistent when making public comments. The witness, Mr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren, who identified himself as an Editor, Nation’s Capital of THISDAY, insisted

S’Court: President Can’t Ask Court to Remove a Law He Signed Refuses to void Section 84 (12) of Electoral Act at request of Malami Political appointees remain banned from voting at primaries Alex Enumah and Udora Orizu in Abuja The Supreme Court yesterday struck out the suit challenging section 84(12) of the Electoral
Act 2022 banning political appointees from voting at the primaries of political parties, for being incompetent and lacking in merit. The Attorney-General of the
Federation/Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on behalf of the federal government, had filed the suit on the grounds that it violates the rights of political appointees and that it
is in conflict with provisions of the constitution. The section reads: “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention
or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.” In a counter-affidavit filed by the parliament, the

Chuks Okocha and Sunday Aborisade in Abuja The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday published the particulars of the presidential candidates, vice presidential candidates, senatorial and House of Representatives candidates for the 2023 elections with the names of Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan and that of the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, missing on the senatorial list. Also yesterday, INEC explained why some of the names submitted by the political parties were missing from the list published by
the commission. Lawan, Akpabio and Umahi, had been listed by the All Progressives Congress as candidates for Yobe North, Akwa Ibom North-west, and Ebonyi South senatorial districts, respectively. All three had also contested the APC presidential ticket and lost. But the leadership of the party decided to compensate them with the senatorial tickets in a manner not transparent.
