Chuks Okocha in Abuja The National Assembly has moved to alter the current timing and schedules for
the conduct of primaries by political parties in the on-going constitution amendment process. If carried through, parties may be required to
submit the names of their candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) one year before a general election, THISDAY
has learnt. Accordingly, all registered political parties may have to submit names of their candidates for the 2023 general
election between February and March next year. The proposed model is patterned after the Ghanaian electoral system to ensure that

Bandits Abduct 26 in Kaduna as 246 Suspected Terrorists Surrender in Borno John Shiklam in Kaduna and Michael Olugbode in Maiduguri Gunmen yesterday abducted about 26 people along the Kaduna-Kachia road and Kugo village, in Chikun Local
Government Area of Kaduna State. While 21 of the victims were, reportedly, kidnaped along the Kaduna-Kachia road, five women were abducted at Kugo village, near Godani Railway Station, Chikun Local Government Area, on their
way to the farm. Both incidents occurred Friday. However, in Borno State, about 246 suspected Boko Haram members, reportedly, laid down their arms and surrendered as part of the current efforts at ceasefire.
The counsellor representing Zonkwa ward in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of the state, Luka Bako, was among those abducted along the Kaduna-Kachia road, but he miraculously escaped. Speaking in a telephone
interview with THISDAY, Saturday, Bako said he was travelling from Zonkwa to Kaduna in a Sharon commercial bus when the bandits struck. He said the incident occurred on Friday around 5pm after Doka village,

Stop Harassing My Govt, Buhari Urges Nigerian Elites Says critics are not interested in competence, flags off APC membership revalidation exercise Deji Elumoye in Abuja President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Nigerian elite to stop harassing his government with their unfounded criticisms, noting that their ratings have never been competence-based. Buhari spoke yesterday in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State, while hosting the APC governors after revalidating his party membership. The president, who accused the Nigerian elite of constantly harassing his government since assuming office five and a half years ago, however, said his
administration's books would always be open for public scrutiny, as the government has nothing to hide.
