optimism about a new dawn for Nigeria after the travails it is going through. The Vice President was also in Lagos later yesterday at an Afternoon of Tribute for departed media leaders, where

he eulogised late Malam Ismaila Isa, Malam Wada Maida, Mr. Bisi Lawrence, Chief Gbolabo Ogunsanwo, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, Mr. Eddie Aderinokun, Mr. Ben Egbuna, Prince Tony Momoh

and Alhaji Lateef Jakande, describing them as giants of their craft “who used their noble profession to make enduring impacts on both the private and public sectors of the country.”

Osinbajo, was joined at the National Prayer Breakfast by former Head of State, Gen Yakubu Gowon; President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr. Samson Ayokunle, among

Bandits Hit Suleja, IG Insists Abuja, Contiguous States Safe Kingsley Nwezeh in Abuja Bandits, late on Wednesday, invaded Kwankwashe community, in Suleja, Niger State, just 30 minutes’ drive from Abuja, killing two people,

thus fueling growing fears of possible attack in Abuja. The Acting InspectorGeneral of Police, Usman Baba, yesterday swiftly assured residents of Abuja, Plateau State and other contiguous

states of their safety and security as they go about their lawful duties, but he failed to speak on the attack in Suleja. Recall that an intelligence alert last Wednesday, contained in a leaked memo by the IG

to the FCT Commissioner of Police and his Plateau State counterpart, informing them of a plot by terrorists to attack Abuja and Jos, the Plateau State capital, resulted in palpable panic among

residents of Abuja. The bandits, apart from killing two people in the Kwankwashe attack, also reportedly broke into different houses in the community and abducted an unspecified

Nigeria’s 21st Army Chief, 10 Others Die in Air Crash Buhari: Death of Attahiru, others, a mortal blow to our underbelly

Festus Akanbi in Lagos, Deji Elumoye, Kingsley Nwezeh in Abuja and John Shiklam in Kaduna Nigeria was yesterday thrown into mourning, when its 21st Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, along with six senior officers and four crew members perished in an air crash in Kaduna. Attahiru and the others were onboard Nigerian Air Force Kingair 350 from Abuja to Kaduna, ahead of today’s passing out parade of soldiers from the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria, when the crash happened amid torrential rainfall. Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep sadness over the air crash, saying the military officers would not die in vain. Continued on page 5
