Buhari: I Have No Hand in Sanusi’s Dethronement Kano govt denies banishing former emir, says claim of right abuse premature
Omololu Ogunmade, Kingsley Nwezeh in Abuja and Ibrahim Shuaibu in Kano President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday refuted a claim that he was instrumental to the
dethronement of former Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, describing such insinuations as untrue, malicious and politically motivated. Apparently responding
to an allegation by a former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, claiming Buhari was behind the dethronement, presidential spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, said
in a statement in Abuja that the president had a history of not intervening in state affairs unless national security is involved. The presidential disclaimer coincided with the Kano State
government’s clarification that it did not banish Sanusi, saying the claim that his right had been abridged was premature. Responding to the growing outrage over Sanusi's banishment, the
state’s Attorney General, Mr. Ibrahim Muktar, said the state government was not behind the former emir's forcible relocation to Nasarawa State. Continued on page 8

Coronavirus epidemic on the nation’s economy. Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, called on Nigerians not to panic as the drastic fall in global oil price threatens the country’s
2020 budget as well as its macroeconomic stability. She gave the assurance just as the Central Bank of Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, said the CBN had already embarked on measures to significantly
reduce lending rates, which have resulted in total banking credit rising to over N17.4 trillion as of January. Also, the Group Managing Director, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kyari,
has expressed the corporation’s readiness to strategically put in place measures that would reduce the cost of crude oil production in Nigeria to create a market for Nigeria’s crude and make the country a choice destination for Foreign Direct
Investment (FDI). He, however, said the country should plan for the possibility of a further drop in crude oil price, saying “we haven’t seen the bottom yet.”
