the Council of the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN). The Council will serve as the decision-making organ of BRNN. In the letter of nomination addressed to THISDAY/ARISE Chairman, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, in January this

year, the president of Peoples Daily, Mr. Li Baoshan, wrote that the invitation extended to Adeniyi was because of the “importance and influence” of THISDAY newspaper in Nigeria and across Africa. Peoples Daily is the biggest media group in China and

the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the ruling Communist Party. BRNN, according to Li, “will build an open and cooperative platform under the Belt and Road Initiative” with the aim of promoting “mutual assistance, collaboration and

exchanges among members.” The Belt and Road Initiative is a Chinese foreign policy thrust for massive investment in infrastructure in more than a hundred countries across Africa, Europe, Middle East, Continued on page 6

learnt yesterday. The president has already asked his ministers to hand in their handover notes by tomorrow in preparation for the dissolution of the cabinet. Buhari’s second term begins on May 29 and there are indications that he would waste no moment in constituting a new cabinet.

A top party source said yesterday that the party is insisting that it will no longer be business as usual, saying a situation where those who worked hard for the party's victory will be sidelined by others will not be allowed to happen again. The source said the national leadership of the party had

decided to work with those at the state level to compile and screen those to be recommended for appointment by the president in the next administration. According to the party’s source, all those scrambling for appointments may not find it "easy now as the president may not entertain any lobby

except that coming from the party after due consideration on the credibility and status of the person and the role played during the elections.” Regarding the cases of those who allegedly worked against the party's interests during the last general election, the source said the NWC is also compiling their offences and

Zenith Backs Arise Fashion Week Designers with Flexible Facilities

Zenith Bank Plc has announced its decision to back all designers that participated in the recently concluded Arise Fashion Week (AFW) held in Lagos with flexible facilities to assist them to grow their fashion business. The bank’s Managing Director, Mr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, who disclosed this while presenting N10m cheque to Deola Sagoe and Kenneth Ize for winning the AFW award for designer of the year, said the facilities could be accessed by all the participants. He, therefore, invited all the designers, who participated in the world class event, to contact the bank for the

facilities immediately. The AFW, now rated as the biggest fashion event on the continent, opened April 19 and closed Sunday night. It pooled global fashion brands and models to the Lagos runway, featuring over 30 local and international designers from Africa, America and Europe, as well as over 150 models, including British supermodel, Naomi Campbell, who was here to promote African fashion. The show has also been described as ‘the most beautiful runway in Africa,' which was berthed over a decade ago and is adjudged the most prestigious platform to showcase Africa creative talents through fashion and music.
