in various sectors of the economy, part of which is to increase Value Added Tax (VAT) from the current five per cent. Speaking in Abuja while

launching the SRGI yesterday, the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, said the implementation of the initiative would significantly boost the federal government revenue

outlook in the months and years ahead. She said, “Nigeria’s low revenue generation capabilities have been an enduring challenge to past and present

governments. Although we are celebrated as the country in Africa with the largest economy, translating this wealth into revenues remains a challenge.

FG Orders IOCs to Pay Outstanding Oil Revenues on PSCs Gives 14-day deadline Threatens defaulters with contract termination

Alike Ejiofor

The federal government has given International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in Nigeria’s deep offshore and inland basin a 14-day ultimatum to pay all outstanding revenues on

Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs), THISDAY has learnt. The government said the revenues are in compliance with the Supreme Court judgment last October, which noted that the IOCs are in default of adjusting the revenue accruals in accordance with the

provisions of section 16(1) of the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Act, Cap D3, Laws of the Federation, 2004. In one of the letters written by the federal government’s consultants/recovery agents, Trobell International, directing

Statoil Nigeria Limited to pay $5.5 billion, the government threatened that any IOC, which refuses to pay would have its PSC terminated. The letter cited by THISDAY, was titled, ‘Outstanding Revenue on OML 128 Pursuant to section 16(1) of the Deep

Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Act, Cap D3, Laws of the Federation, 2004’. The government also threatened to file a complaint against such defaulting oil firm at international fora under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act

in the United States of America and other related international protocols for failing to observe the mandatory obligations under Section 16(1) of the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Act. Continued on page 6

S’Court Decides Rivers’ APC Primaries Logjam Under the Gun Tomorrow Analysts say suit is source of Onnoghen’s travail Contend CCT arraignment unnecessary after CJN admitted error Iyobosa Uwugiaren and Alex Enumah in Abuja The Supreme Court is to finally resolve the Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries logjam tomorrow as it delivers its judgement on an appeal brought before it by parties in the protracted conflict, THISADY learnt last night. The judgement, which had been reserved indefinitely on Monday, apparently

because of the impending arraignment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for alleged non-declaration of assets, would be delivered against the background, of what legal analysts described as concealed intimidation of the judiciary by the APC-led federal government. Analysts that spoke to THISDAY last night were Continued on page 6
