OPEC, Russia Mull Easing Supply Limits to Rebalance Oil Market Curbs pushed crude prices to their highest since 2014 NNPC seeks quick execution of capital tasks Chineme Okafor in Abuja with agency report Member countries of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and their major ally, the Russian Federation are considering

relaxing the 2017 limits they imposed on their oil production levels to rebalance the oil market, and increase their output in the market to about 1 million barrels per day (bpd). Reuters reported yesterday that Saudi Arabia, Russia and their

counterpart from the United Arab Emirates met in the Russian city of St. Petersburg to review the terms of the global oil supply pact that has been in place for 17 months, ahead of a key OPEC meeting in Vienna next month. Sources informed Reuters that

the meeting indicated they were ready to ease supply curbs that had pushed crude prices to their highest since 2014 despite oil prices losing more than 2 per cent by yesterday from the price advantage it had gained. According to the news agency,

while the energy ministers of these countries met and discussed an output increase of about 1mbd, Brent crude futures were down by $1.77 at $77.02 a barrel yesterday, having hit their highest since late 2014. It equally reported that U.S.

West Texas Intermediate crude futures were at $68.84 a barrel, down by $1.87. OPEC and a group of nonOPEC producers led by Russia started withholding output in Continued on page 6

Ekiti 2018: Army, Police Can’t Rescue Fayemi from Defeat, Say Fayose, Wike The will of the people must be allowed to stand, says Jonathan Victor Ogunje in Ado Ekiti The governors of Ekiti and River States, Ayodele Fayose and Nyesom Wike respectively, yesterday said the deployment of soldiers and police won’t save the candidate of the All Progres-

sives Congress (APC), Dr Kayode Fayemi, from being disgraced in the July 14 governorship poll. Fayose insisted that the “poor performances” of the Buhari’s administration had substantiated the fact that there was no alternative to the Peoples Democratic

Party (PDP) in the running of government at the centre. The governors spoke in Ado Ekiti during the inauguration of the new Governor’s office; former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was also present. Wike did the official inaugura-

tion and he was supported by his counterparts from Akwa Ibom, Mr. Emmanuel Udom, that of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dakwambo as well as Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu . Fayose, who spoke before the inauguration of the edifice insisted

that the APC candidate for the July 14 election and former governor had never won any election in the history of the state. He said: “Oni won the election but Justice Ayo Salami gave it to Fayemi. They want to bring him back now; I want to say that they

will fail. “The Pharaoh deployed every weapon against the Israelites but they ended up in the Red Sea. That is how election will be because it was a divine mandate for Governor Continued on page 6

Oshiomhole: Buhari´s Achievements Will Guarantee Victory for APC We'll win more states and National Assembly seats

Adibe Emenyonu in Benin City Immediate past governor of Edo State, and Chairmanship hopeful of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s achievements would propel him to victory in 2019. Oshiomhole, who declared this while addressing leaders of the APC in Edo State, predicted that despite the effort being made by the opposition to misinform Nigerians about the activities of the APC-led government, the APC would win more states in the governorship election and more National Assembly seats. He said the campaigns for 2019 general elections would be interesting because his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), would reveal to Nigerians how the alleged looting of the nation’s treasury during the 16 years reign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), plunged Nigerians into poverty, “which the APC government under President Buhari was making effort to

eliminate.” According to Oshiomhole, who recently received the endorsement of President Buhari and the APC caucus in the Senate and House of Representatives to succeed Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as the National Chairman of the APC, “it is our task as party activist to painstakingly explain to our people in the rural areas who dug the hole that led to what we are experiencing today as a nation and the effort by President Buhari to gradually pull us out of that hole to the surface and begin to push and uplift us upward to that level in which every Nigerian will have to say I am a proud Nigerian.” He continued: “Poverty is not an act of God; it is the result of our economic history. And when you look at the numbers of how much was stolen under the watch of Jonathan as President and the revelations made, the kind of money that was diverted under the PDP regime under President Jonathan, those monies if distributed by 180 million Continued on page 6
