for alleged diversion of ecological funds during his tenure, spent a second day with the anti-graft agency, explaining his role in the said mismanagement. Anyim, who was also Senate President under Obasanjo, arrived the commission's headquarters in Abuja on Thursday morning

following an invitation by the agency. Sources said that he was subsequently grilled by EFCC operatives about the management of ecological funds during his tenure as the SGF. Confirming Anyim's detention, EFCC Head of Media and

Publicity, Wilson Uwijaren said: "Yes, he has been arrested and he's still under our custody." Uwijaren confirmed that Anyim was being questioned over the alleged “diversion of ecological funds meant for Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja."

Though, the EFCC spokesman will not provide further details whether the commission would also investigate Anyim on alleged corruption surrounding the Centenary City project, which he headed, THISDAY gathered that the commission might also look into the books of the Centenary

FG Constitutes Committee to Probe Death of 26 Nigerian Teenage Girls Omololu Ogunmade in Abuja The federal government has constituted a ministerial committee to unravel the circumstances which led to the death of 26 teenage Nigerian

migrant girls in the Mediterranean early this month. A presidential source made this disclosure last night in reaction to allegations that the Nigerian government was indifferent to the mysterious death of the girls

perceived to have drowned in the sea. According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been following the issue since it became public knowledge and equally updates the presidency on the

matter on a regular basis. The source also said the committee has the responsibility to study reports on the alleged sale of some Nigerian citizens into slavery and report its findings to the Federal Executive Council

next week. The committee is chaired by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami. Other members of the committee are the Minister of

Foreign Affairs, Geofrey Onyema, Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung and Senior Special Assistant to the Continued on page 6

David-Chyddy Eleke and, Christopher Isiguzo in Awka and Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja Who wins today’s governorship election in Anambra State? Will incumbent governor Willy Obiano

of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) get a second term? Or will he be upstaged by either Oseloka Obaze of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP); or Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress (APC)?

and of course, Osita Chidoka of the United Peoples Party (UPP) is also in the race even though his chances are improbable. The stakes are quite high. Obiano’s APGA is desperate to retain the only state it controls

in Nigeria, while the APC wants to extend its presence in the South-east with a victory in today’s poll. For the PDP, this is an opportunity to recover a state it once controlled during the Obasanjo era. Chidoka is

aiming to make a statement by contesting under the relatively unknown UPP. As a result of these high stakes, tension remained very high across Anambra State as the voters prepare to troop out this

morning to determine their next governor for another four years. Observers have said that today’s election would serve as a pointer to what would happen in 2019 Continued on page 6
