The G20 Africa Partnership conference this week in Berlin marked a significant moment

to focus on what both African and G20 governments can do to address economic and political challenges in one of the world’s most vibrant continents ready to overcome its challenges along with its partners who have often promised prosperity. Having shown their serious intent at

C O M M E N TA RY the lectern and on panels, the G20 and African leaders must now move beyond speeches and pledges and take concrete, demonstrable steps to help the African continent harness its full potential. France, Germany, Italy

and the UK have – as key European G20 members – the opportunity to do just that in the coming days as the EU moves to finalise its AntiMoney Laundering Directive. These countries could demonstrate a real commitment to help curb corruption in African and other countries

(not to mention their own) by ensuring that the beneficial owners of companies, trusts and similar legal mechanisms are made publicly available. Nigeria is already leading by example with our current efforts at ensuring that there is no hiding place for corrupt individuals and corporations.

In a Major Upset, PDP Wins Osun Senatorial Bye-Election Ademola Adeleke scores 97,480 votes to defeat APC's Mudashir Hussein with 66,116 votes Yinka Kolawole in Osogbo In a major setback for the ruling All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Peoples Democratic Party won the Osun West senatorial bye-election held yesterday by the Independent National Electoral Commission. In the final result announced by INEC in the early hours of today, the PDP candidate, Otunba Ademola Adeleke, the younger brother of the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke for whose replacement the election was held, won with 97, 480 votes. He beat the APC candidate, Senator Mudashir Hussein,

who scored 66,116 votes to place second. PDP also won in nine of the 10 local government areas in Osun West senatorial district. According to the results released by INEC, PDP won in Iwo Local Government Area with 12,547 votes, against APC’s 12,205 votes; Ola Oluwa local government with 5, 618 votes, to APC’s 5316 votes; and Ayedire local government with 5, 789 votes, to 5, 360 votes scored by APC.
