Summary: This study offers a new method of work (operating) with the concept “information” in the sphere of Human Studies (Human and Social Sciences) and Journalism. The philosophical definition says: Information is a reflection or knowledge perceived by someone or something. The new definition specifies the use of this concept in the relationship “man - environment”: Information is a formalized product of the transformation of registered signals into well-known concepts. In the field of social communications information is only the knowledge internalized by someone (by me). Information has been proven to be a subjective, rather than an objective phenomenon. The actual situation of “informational fetishism” has also been analyzed. There is an illustration of empirical situations of accurate and inaccurate ideas of the essence of information in the journalistic practice. Keywords: information, fetishism.
