Statement of the Board’s responsibilities

The Board is responsible for preparing the Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and regulations.
The Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014 and registered social housing legislation require the Board to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Registered Social Landlord (RSL) and of the surplus or deficit for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the Board is required to:

• select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
• make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
• state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and
• prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the RSL will continue in business.
The Board is responsible for keeping proper accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the RSL’s transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the RSL and to enable it to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014 and Regulations thereunder the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008 and the Accounting Direction for Social Housing in England 2019. It is also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the RSL and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
The Board is responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the society’s website. Legislation in the United Kingdom governing the preparation and dissemination of financial statements may differ from legislation in other jurisdictions. Independent auditors
